  1. I removed the passenger side dash vent duct and found the 2nd mounting bolt and removed it. There seems to be a spot in the middle of the lower dash or towards the instrument cluster that seems to be still attached. How do I access the speedo cable at the back of the cluster to disconnect it? Any help would be greatly appreciated as my frustration is getting bigger trying to get this instrument cluster out.
  2. I can't believe out of all of the MC owners here, that someone else has not replaced the clock with a tach in the dash. I'm trying to find out all the spots that I need to take loose to get the dash out far enough to get the instrument cluster out.
  3. How much do you ask for your restored dual speaker stereo dash pads? Any idea as to when you might be able to make a black dash pad?
  4. I'm in need of a replacement dual speaker stereo dash pad. I need a Black dash pad if you have one available. Please let me know. Thanks, Doug
  5. I'm trying to get all my mechanical to-do's done so that I can get my 72 Monte Carlo sprayed with the etching primer on the bare metal, and then finish it with the brand new paint job and vinyl top. I just installed a brand new heater core in my A/C Monte, and now I'm ready to install the new tach in the dash. I was thinking of replacing the clock with the tach, and installing LED bulbs in the instrument cluster while I have it out. Is this the best route to go, or as I've seen on the forum here, where others have installed new fuel, amp, and temp gauges? If I just change the clock out with the tach, is there a instrument cluster lense that can be purchased that doesn't have the hole in it for the clock adjustment knob? Thanks, Doug
  6. Heck, I paid $856 for one gallon of special paint for my Monte. I hope to get it painted and back together this summer.
  7. Thanks for the info! I was able to get under the dash and the previous owner had a nice 10 ga wire already connected to the IGN terminal in the fuse block, so I routed that out through the firewall and connected it to the HEI. Now I just have to modify the external voltage regulator wiring as Leghome suggested. Thanks again!
  8. I'm almost ready to fire up my 396 stroker motor that I built for my 72 Monte Carlo. The car had no motor when I bought it last year. I got a brand new HEI distributor, plug wires, and spark plugs for the install. I read that I should run a 12 ga wire from the ign spade in the fuse box to the BAT on the distributor. For an in dash tach install, is there a certain color wire that was existing to the old style coil that I can use for a factory style tach, or is there a certain way to wire it up from the dash? Also, I disconnected the factory external voltage regulator on the core support so that the "generator" dash light would go out when the ignition key was in the off position. I got a GM 1 wire alternator for the car, so is there something special that I need to do with the wiring to the old voltage regulator to make sure things are working properly. Thanks, Doug
  9. My 72 Monte Carlo was ordered by a local woman, and it was Sequoia Green with a black vinyl top, green interior with cloth seats, tilt column, A/C, 350 4bbl, 350 turbo trans, 2.73 gears, etc. Is there any vendors for the Monte Carlo that makes and sells the cloth seat upholstery? I've seen lots of vinyl seat stuff, but not the cloth upholstery. From the build sheet that I found on top of the gas tank, here are the options she got when she ordered my Monte Carlo; A01 - All tinted glass B37 - Floor mats B42 - Lugg compartment mat B80 - Roof Drip Molding B85 - Belt Reveal Molding B96 - Front/Rear OPG Molding C08 - Vinyl Top C24 - Depress W/S Washer Pump C60 - Air Conditioning GW5 - 2.73 Gear Ratio axle J50 - Power Brakes JL2 - Power Disc Front Brakes L48 - V8 350 CI 4BB M38 - CBC Trans N33 - Tilt Steering Wheel N40 - Power Steering PA3 - Custom Wheel Disc PU8 - G78x15WW Tires UF1 - Map Lamp U25 - Lugg Compartment Lamp U26 - Underhood Lamp U27 - Glove Box Lamp U28 - Ash Tray Lamp U29 - IP Courtesy Lamps U35 - Electric Clock U63 - AM Radio U76 - Windshield Antenna U80 - Rear Speakers ZJ9 - Lite Group She ordered it and it was built in the Van Nuys Plant, then it shipped directly to the Tigard Oregon, and then to Maurice Roy Garage in Pilot Rock, Oregon, which is where she lived and bought it from. I got it from the guy that bought it from her, so I'm the third owner of this soon to be getting new paint 72 MC. Did the non-Custom models get the B85 Belt Reveal Molding? Thanks, Doug
