  1. I don't exactly run around with VIN's in my pocket or checking on every VIN I see... What were these wierd options? That will stick out in my head and then I will think to check a VIN
  2. There's a special graphite based lube as someone stated earlier: Remove the cable from the car, and you can see that the "cable" can actually be removed from it's protective sleeve. Pull it out, lube it up, re-insert... But seriously, a new cable costs, what... $12?
  3. The line does not hold fluid... but it does hold a thick grease for the cable... I've had a similar problem once: My speedo just stopped working so I replaced the cable... The speedometer started working again, but sporadically. and if I went to fast it would make a clicking noise that sped into a buzz at high speeds. My needle would start throwing itself back and forth on the speedometer as well. A new cable did not fix it, and I learned that when the original cable went bad it broke the little plastic gear in the transmission. See, there's a gear in the transmission, as well as one in the speedometer, that is what transferes the spin from the cable into the speedo, or reads it from the tranny. If you had a cable go bad, or the alignment fall out between two parts... it will strip these gears. The one in the speedo is easy: Buy a whole new speedometer. The transmission one can be a b*tch. Correct me if I'm wrong, anyone?
  4. They just said to box them up with a letter explaining the problem. He asked if we could include the old lines too, but I told him my old lines had been replaced with rubber tubing. If these are lines you don't need anymore, and you don't really need em back... We could send them off too, but I don't know if they'll be returned as well. They just wanted something to compare to as well. If we decide to do that, lets make sure those parts-car-lines actually fit the car. I apreciate all this bro, thanks.
  5. Alex, I called Classic Tube today and had a nice chat with a fellow named "Mike". He has decided that they must have sent us the wrong tubes (although they clearly had (1970-1972 monte Carlo written on the tag). He is going to arrange for them to be picked up from your house sometime this week and they will pay the return shipping to take them back and look at or correct them. I explained we had allready installed the brake lines, and that we had tried to re-bend then transmission lines but they were just too long. He said to send him any lines we had not instaleld yet and that we do not expect to fit. I don't think we should send the fuel lines back yet, because they may fit correctly... and we haven't tried them yet. But if you could box up the Transmission lines and include a note from me that I just wrote (see below) and feel free to handwrite any of your ideas on the letter. You can download and print a copy of the letter from this link. Also, I called the body shop and we have an appointment for the top to be installed on June 21st. You said two to three weeks, so I figured that would be a good time, and it's either then or not until like early July. How does that work?
  6. Alex... I think your girl is abusing the internet again... Your phone's been busy for quite awhile now... So what time should I show up tomorrow, and are we working tomorrow? Please gimme a call if and when you get this. If I don't answer my cell (almost dead battery) try my dad's at 847-612-2472 Thanks bud.
  7. Don't feel bad Alex, you're the one doing me the favor. I'll see you guys tomorrow. What time do you expect to be at the shop? Well... I suppose I'll just ask you that when I call you (probably should do that within the hour anyway). To you guys and everyone else, enjoy your Memorial Day!
  8. 0900, Aye! I'm on my way boys, my father is tagging along, so extra hands! See you at about 9 o'clock! Billie
  9. Hmm... interesting... a fire... Anyway, I'll see you guys on Sunday. What time will you be there, because it will take me three hours to drive down from the North end of Chicago.
  10. I hope this surprise has NOTHING to do with the vast amounts of rain lately and the flood plain that John built his garage on..... I'll plan on seeing you guys this weekend then!
  11. Are you guys interested in seeing me this memorial day weekend? Or will you guys be enjoying it with your families like normal people?
  12. I cant make it this weekend. I had planned on coming, and even went and got gas for my car today (woohoo! it runs!) when I was informed that I WILL be marching in a memorial day parade thats a week early. so I'm going to see if I can make it down the next weekend, but I'm allready slated to be the greasemonkey at the shop... so we'll see... God, and I thought summer would make my days less busy... silly me.
  13. so should I order a new trunk pan then?
  14. Well I've been pulling some duty at the local garage to get some money. Just doing oil changes and stuff... But I have a few hundred saved up, if we need a new trunk. Let me know what all we need, and I'll order it I suppose. I am hoping to be down there this weekend, but no promises. I just got my driver back from the garage (new brake-booster, and now she's starting to have some serious engine sounds too) but I don't know how she's driving. it started acting really rough and died in the street yesterday. I'm doing a tune-up, carb clean, new sparkies, new distributer today... so we'll see how that helps it out. If we need floor pans, I guess we can order those now so we only have to pay truck frieght once. (depending on how much I can scrounge up and how much the order will be)
  15. Well my brake booster on my driver just expired this morning as I was on my way back to Purdue. So my car has no brakes at the moment and I'm in Chicago. It will be atleast a week and $200 until I'm mobile again... Freaking crappy luck.
  16. Wednesday, as in May 12th? When will you be at the shop?
  17. Well technically not "Chicago". I will be taking Electromechanical Physics at Northwestern University, on the Evanston Campus. Feel free to stop in and bug me if you want. Hopefully, Molly will be done by then! ((classes start on July 9th, I believe))
  18. Well boys, summer is here. I finished my finals and am now on to enjoy the spectacular summer ahead of me! I allready have ambitions (not concrete plans, yet) to cruise good old route 66 in the Monte. So yeah, I'm ready to blast this summer off it's hinge! I'm pretty open on my hours now, so let me know when its best for me to come out and help. Otherwise, I'll be spending my time working on my house and doing repairs. It looks like I have to take a summer course in July, so I'm hoping we can get Molly up and done before then. Because then I'll be in Chicago to take that course, and I allready miss just seeing that car... Let alone driving her! This georgeous weather is just reminding me how much I miss having a cruiser... Anyway, let me know when its best for me to come out to Champaign!
  19. Allrighty, it's been ordered from the Paddock (Order # 851277) and I popped for shipping. he said it was $17 to ship it, and for that... I'm not driving 5 or 6 hours and burning 30 bucks worth of gas. I shipped it to your house, Alex... and they said to expect it by the end of this week or on Monday.
  20. Ok, I'll get us another outer wheel housing then. Don't we need to get that done and in place before the new quarter is installed? I'll try to get the new wheel housing to you guys sometime on Thursday...
  21. I have not ordered it yet. I will most likely order it and pick it up on thursday, and drive it to you guys. We do still want the driver's side one, right? Also, I will not be able to make it out there this weekend. Apparently it's mothers day and we all know that if a son does not spend the day at home celebrating, he will be in a world of pain.
  22. FYI, I am now posting all the pictures in a seperate posting under the "Auto Body Repair" forum. The thread can be viewed here.
  23. So will Alex or anybody be down there tonight then to meet us? And if so at what time?
  24. I get out of class at 1630... so you can expect me around 1800 or 1900. But my dad who's driving the truck will probably be at Johns by 1730 with the parts. ((Have I mentioned how much I love my father yet today?))
  25. I called CARS INC. They have a part that is the full skin, from door to fender extension with the wheel housing. It's more than a skin, but not quite a whole new quarter. They want like $209 a piece for these babies plus shipping. I allready have paid for the paddock parts and have arranged for my dad to drive his suburban down to Indiana tonight so we can pick up the order on Friday... After reading on these boards, the Chevelle outer wheelhouse will require quite a bit of modification... but everything else should work fine. It's cheaper to just use what we allreayd have ordered, but if you guys think it will be too big a pain in the butt I can try to cancel my order and get a refund from paddock and have CARS INC ship me their parts... Should we just stick with what we've got?
