  1. There should be a "hook" on the spring at the opposite end of the emblem. The hook hooks onto the lower part of the main body of the hood spear. It appears that the one the dealer gave you is broken on the lower end.
  2. Yeah, that's oil fouled. You mention smoke on start up. I would say it's most likely bad valve seals. I would look at them first.
  3. Here is a pic of the firewall for a non-A/C car and the inner and outer heater only set up.
  4. Thank you for the story behind the accident. I'm glad both the driver and passenger are ok. Any decisions on the car itself?
  5. Arron, on Barn Find I used a pertronix distributor, their coil and wires that Kevin donated, that were "in stock" for 10 yrs prior. All look stock.
  6. Not if you go with the Detroit trutrac. No posi additive needed.
  7. Congratulations Aaron! An absolutely beautiful representation of a first gen!!
  8. Gears, posi unit, install kit with bearings, differential fluid, posi additive (if not using a trutrac) ,money, someone to set it all up correctly.
  9. The aftermarket do not fit well. Exactly what you described. The only other alternative is NOS, which can be expensive, but in this case, worth it or a good used set.
  10. Was on Barn Find. Not anymore. Don't remember with Big Red. Is on Covid, a 350 trans car and is on Kevin's 71 SS. And just checked my pics, my 71 402 4speed does not have it. I don't believe any 4speed Monte Carlo has one.
  11. Rear control arms are wayyyy easier than the front to do.
  12. Richard, can you be a little more detailed? Is the fluid where the rear end is? Transmission? Engine? What color is it? Does it only happen when the car has sat for a few days?
  13. Welcome Kevin! Love big block, 4 speed Monte Carlos!
  14. With the intake off, look down the intake ports at the valve and stem. If the seals/guides are leaking you should see signs.
  15. Sorry for the loss of your grandfather. We all know how life comes first as well as the loved ones still with us. Congratulations on your marriage and house purchase. Do not hesitate to ask questions, vent or whatever else you may need. There are a lot of helpful people here. We are here for you or whoever needs us.
  16. We have always had good success with headman headers for a small block. That is what we used on our "Covid" Monte. Although upon closer inspection these may be hooker. Either way you can use a standard length sparkplug with both. Maybe Kevin will see this (Owner of the "Covid" Monte presently) and clarify what make they are.
  17. Super agree. The bushings are going to move now.
  18. Very interesting indeed!
  19. You definitely got your money's worth out of the first one. I hope you get that and more from the replacement.
  20. Why Dennis? Don't you like the 70 grille on a 71? 😂
  21. What's with the Chevelle style vinyl top and incorrect mouldings. 🤔
  22. I believe the smaller buckles are for the shoulder/roof straps to make an early type of 3pt system. I believe they were also called highway belts.
