  1. As promised, My 71 402 "Barn Find" was built/assembled the 2nd week of September. B112688 Your car was built 4,121 after mine. When was the strike? I ask because our 71 402 4speed, numbers matching, engine, trans, rear Monte Carlos engine was built August of 70 but the car was assembled the 3rd week of January 71.
  2. I will check the cowl tag tomorrow. As for the blue decal on the driver's door, it says September of 1970. My 70 SS was built September of 1969. What are the odds? Same month, a year apart.
  3. He's asking for a little higher stall than stock, not a "High stall". Purchase the b&m converter and I guarantee it will feel and act as wallaby said. Trust me, get the GM25 from Hughes and never look back. My son's engine specs out close to yours. And as far as loosing engine braking, he still has it. Although he has 4:10s. "Big Red" has engine braking also with a PTC "high stall" converter with 3:31 gears. Not like a stock converter but you definitely feel it and hear it.
  4. Barn find is mine. Lol and yes, it was assembled at the Baltimore plant.
  5. Alot of people like b&m torque converters. I highly recommend staying away from their converters. The shift improver kit, I recommend. As far as converters for a street car as you described I recommend a converter from Hughes. I have used a few of them in all brands of cars and have not had one failure. I believe the GM25 would be good for your application. My son has it in his 71 Monte Carlo now. Previously it was in his gto convertible that had a 400 poncho. The converter works great! If you were doing something more radical I would recommend PTC. I have this converter in my 70 SS with a 496 and love it. I'm sure you will get alot of different names. I recommend looking into the Hughes. What gears do you have in the rear?
  6. Lol l hope not Paul. Still have to get back to the 71 402 4speed resto. 🤞🤔 I have been changing what is bad on "barn find" to make it reliable to hopefully drive soon. Lol But as you know when you fix one thing something else shows it's cards and snowballs from there. 😤

    Mystery part

Dimmer switch is on the floor. No brackets. The flasher bracket/holder you have pictures mounts to the brake pedal main bracket.
  8. Look above at the post of my 71 402 "barn find" it has factory gauges and the driver's side temp unit is a stud and nut. This Monte was built Sept of 70.
  9. There should be 2 dimples on the fenderwell that need to be drilled out for the valve if they are new fenderwells. This goes for the plastic as well as the steel inner fenderwells.
  10. Okee dokey, here's one to make you go hmmmmm🤔. Doing a few minor things to my son's Monte and happened to see the original temp harness. It has 2 wires a green and a green and white. The car is originally an idiot light car. It's not hooked up because he is using a mechanical temp gauge.
  11. Morning all. Here are pictures of the switches on the barn find.the pass side is one terminal that goes into a connector behind the booster near the fuse block. The driver's side is a bolt on connection and that wire goes into the harness on the driver's fender.
  12. I will check and take pics of "barn find" tomorrow. I believe it is just like Willie's 72. Even though it's a 71 402, it has factory gauges. Except for the cubic inch difference it should be the same as a 71 SS.
  13. This is the solinoid and bracket on my 71 402 "barn find". Same as Canuck and Dtret.
  14. Inside? The center rear view mirror? Tighten the screw extremely tightly with a big screwdriver. One the same size as the screw so it doesn't slip off and bugger the head. And if yours is loose at the roof, remove the cover and tighten the screws .
  15. I also have the big bulky one on the passenger side that matches the driver's side factory remote one. It hasn't lost its adjustment at all. Especially compared to the much thinner non remote style.
  16. Hi Joy. From the pics you posted it looks like you don't have a factory style remote mirror. IDK if your door panel has a cut out in it. What you can do is purchase the manual style mirrors for a 70 Chevelle. They come as a set or you can get just the right side. Hope this helps.
  17. Well the original rear end, numbers on the axle tube for my 70 SS is all ready to be installed. Finished it up today. Now, when to install it so the identical rear, not numbers matching can then be installed into "barn find" . Lolol Decided to do a quick polish to the rear bumper. It looked horrible and wouldn't clean up with a brillo. If you zoom in you can see the b4 and after. Right side is after. Lolol. The bumper is still shot but looks better. Lol

Sorry about your dad. 😓 He left you a nice car. As you will see, there are alot of knowledgeable people here and everyone wants to help. There are no stupid questions, so ask away if you like. Welcome again!
  19. A truly ALL ORIGINAL car! Not rebuilt, repainted, or anything.... All original! Time capsule! They are only ALL original once! Beautiful car. IDK about the price, but beautiful!

Welcome Joy!! Nice 70 you have there. Tell us more about it and more pics!!! Lolol
  21. The 70 uses a vented gas cap to prevent the "pressure and popping"
  22. You can try that but it will still be the same. I installed a vacuum pump on my 70 SS and have never looked back. No more brake issues. Or you can get a hydroboost system. I went pump. Cheaper and kept the stock look of the engine compartment. I installed the pump under the front fender behind the washer bottle. Out of sight and so are the lines.
  23. Hey Tony. I know its not what you want to hear, but the saying is.... "There's a reason for everything." Sometimes, heck most of the time we don't know what the reason is. I believe you know what it is.... Family and benefits- damn good reason! Sorry for the closed door and happy for the new/re-entered one for you.
