  1. I was just gonna do a motor swap on my 1970 monte carlo, when i realized that the body mounts and frame needed repair, so I pulled the body off and started rebuilding the rusted out sections of the body. I don't have the room to have the body and frame separate/next to each other so i have to just have the body lifted off the frame on blocks. I am using a flux core welder. it's kinda a big task trying to fix the rust, with not much solid metal to weld too, but it's coming along , the driver side floor pan i grinded out the rust and made plugs and patch panels out of a left over rocker panel i had laying around. the actual body mounts i haven't figured out yet , I don't see much for sale for body mount repair panels, so i guess i gotta build my own, the trunk pan wasn't attached to the wheel well and i didn't think i was gonna be able to line it up, but i found a spot that the metal was close where it was rusted/broken and was able to line it up and start patching and welding it there , I don't plan on making a perfect show car, but don't wanna do a hack-job ether, I would like to drive the car next summer (not worried about a paint job or anything like that) here are some pictures of where its at as of today. ,
  2. the stock motor mounts have tabs or something that was in the way, i can cut them off easily enough , my simple motor swap turned in to taking the body off .

Has anybody used the LSX Innovations LS adapter plates? i have them, the only way they would bolt up (without modifying/cutting the motor mounts ) is all the way back (i figured further back the better) but is it gonna be too far back? it seemed kinda close but than i removed the body (because during the swap I noticed the body mounts were rusted out) do i need to move the engine forward alittle.

Hello , its been a few years since ive been on here, I am putting a 2004 5.3 and trans out of a truck into my 1970 Monte Carlo. but I need a different oil pan, and with the motor/frame placement being different on the monte vs every other car . I want to make sure I get the correct oil pan. this is the oil pan i am looking at. says Ls and LSX but should fit a truck engine too? does it fit a monte carlo?????   5. Today showeled the snow off them monte than i spent 2 hours looking for Valve cover bolts and speaders. found 7 of the 8. got them painted now waiting on the rust-oleum to dry,
  6. Ok just got the 5.3, it has throttle by wire, so that needsd tobe replaced. I wonder if i should find a camaro intake and throttle body
  7. Hey guys, long time no chat. but I have my 2001 5.3L motor/harness/computer on the way, should be here sunday. I bought / read the How to swap a LS into almost any thing. lots of info (but all the info is mainly for the LS1 camaro motor (wire and stuff) I know the motor fits each car diferntly. some need a new oil pan/or the stock one modifiyed. The monte looks like the motor sits back farther than any other car. I hope this motor will fit. I will be useing a th/400 trans (so i need adapters) I need motor mounts, trans adapter, header/manifolds (I want twin turbo eventaly) but for now I think a Z06 camshaft should liven it up alittle, I am keeping it Fuel injected. Side note, My car is bright red, and the paint job is peeling and popping, kinda had me in the dumps (it would be so hard to macth old faded paint)...... LOL Well I was painting a RED stripe on my motorcycle, when I relized that the bright cherry red RUST-olem is a PERFECT PAINT MACTH FOR MY CAR. so now it is half spray paint. and it macthes great.

  9. I ordered the book HOW TO SWAP a GM LS into anything. i hope it clears up some of my questions about this swap
  10. i want to get a 5.3L truck motor to put in my 70 monte. does anybody have advise???????????? i want to keep the F/I . i can get truck motors for $350 - $700. has anybody here ever did this? i just dont trust the motor in the monte now, it is old and sluged up... and i need somthing for a daliy driver. had it for 3 year and still havent been ablie to drive it. now the paint is junk and bondo is popping, so i have to drive it this year whille it still looks ok.

  12. trans slips in and out of gear. while Idleing in gear it kicks in and out. going down the road it feels fine. any ideas?
  13. when your battery is dead and you need a jump you mite want a cable lacth. just my 2 cents
  14. i bought the b&m shift inprover kit. what stage should i use i have a mild cam 2.73 rear end
