  1. Murphy is right. One clarification on his statement. The corner pieces he speaks of are the rear ones. The corners on the sail panels are stainless and on the 1970 "full Halo roofs the front corners are stailess. There was no plastic trim used other than after market stuff. Rob
  2. No Larry. My original 70 which I purchased new off the dealer lot was a 350 4brl. That car would really lay a nice strip when I wanted. The original bias-ply tires did not last near the miles they could have. This Monte is a 350 2brl and other than light sand or gravel the tires have never realy done anything other than chirp so this surprised me more than excited me. I always knew if I let either of my son's dirve it they would not be out to give anyone a challenge. Really I never push this car to see what it would do because with the 2brl it is pretty weak out of the hole. Rob
  3. I took mine out for a few minutes. I am trying to run it a little bit at a time since all of my work so I can retorque everything after a few heat-up/cool down cycles. I think I am going to have to dig the old plugs out of the trash. Believe it or not those new plugs have made a huge difference in how she is running. The old plugs looked pretty funky. I have always said my tires will only lay rubber on a wet, gravel covered or sand covered pavement. I had to accelerate a little hard hard to get out of a side street and with the same amount of depression on the pedal as before she really squealed. I had never had her do that before. Rob
  4. I didn't get the Monte out yesterday but last night I was able to spend 3 1/2 hours stuffing the Eastern Meet Goody Bags and pa.cking them into boxes for the trip to Carlisle. rob
  5. I for one am glad you cleared that up. rob
  6. If you are referring to the rubber seal that slip into the verticle chrome 1/4 glass I use Metro Moulded products. As a matter of fact I recommend them for all seals including Trunk, Door, Window to Roof seal etc. Etc. Not only do they make a great product, they also sponsor our Eastern and Western Meets. Rob
  7. Larry, I bought the Mothers Clay Bar System. It comes with two clay bars, 1 microfiber cloth (you will need a lot more microfiber cloths than they give you) and it also comes with a bottle of Mothers Showtime Detailer. You use the Mothers Showtime Detailer as the liquid with the clay bar so I guess it does leave a coverage of this on the surface Rob
  8. Larry, I have avoided the clay bar because I thought it was a lot of work but it is not bad at all I don't think it is near as aggressive on the paint as a machine buffer. The key is following the rules and doing a very small section at a time. It really does a nice job and removes any surface junk on the paint. Just read up on it. I had my car done with a clay bar a few years back at a body shop and thought it was a difficult process and had never tried it myself. Last year I saw Bob W. using it in Carlisle and he had given me some tips on how to do it.. I figured if Bob can do it I can too and I was right. I think it took me about two hours to do my entire car ..........one hour of that was the hood alone if you know what I mean. Rob
  9. I had recently removed my old trunk seal. I did not have any weather strip adheasive so I just test fitted it to cut it to the proper length and to allo it to "take a set" while in place with the trunk closed. Today, I removed the trunk seal, clean the channel and glue it into place. It really looks so much better now. I also had an opportunity to clean and claybar the entire car to remove any debris from half of last cruise season and the long winter under its car cover so now she is nice and smooth and as shiny as a 17 year old paint job can be. I know everyone loves to snap reflection pictures from the side of their dark colored car, with a light colored car that is very difficult but while cleaning it up with the clay bar I was able to shoot a selfie of myself reflecting in the side of the car. After I cleaned up the better part of the car (I still have to do the interior, clean out the trunk and from my work in the engine compartment on the manifolds, heat shields etc, etc. there is some oily areas I need to touch up and then she will be ready for Carlisle. I did get to take her for about a 20 minute spin tonight before putting her back to bed. Check out my selfie reflection in the thumbnail Rob
  10. Wow, you have more than one wife AND a girlfriend. You truely my Hero!!! rob
  11. Your first question has already been answered by Rich. Regarding the standard and deluxe belts.... Yes, they were both available The standard usually was just a colored plastic female where the deluxe female buckles were a brushed metal with colored belts to match the interior. Rob
  12. I drove by the storage garage where my Monte is stored but didn't get to stop in for a visit. rob
  13. You can check with Jared for parts too, while not right next door, he is not too far away. You said you had full coverage but didnt say how much you had it insured for and that will influence if they total it or not. If it is insured for $20k they may not total it out. rob
  14. Yes, the Neutral Safety switch and bracket needs to be mounted. If it isn't mounted, it can not detect the selector is either in park or neutral which are the only two positions it will let the starter engage. rob
  15. Now that most of the engine compartment area is mostly complete I will be concentrating on some cleaning of the car to remove some of the long winter garage funk. Today I had some honey-do things to do with Patsy so I didn't make it up to the garage till nearly dark so I was only able to get half the hood clay-bared before it was too dark to see what I was doing. Since the grandkids will be over this weekend I won't get back up to the storage garage until next week sometime. Rob
  16. Aren't supervisors supposed to wear white hardhats oat worksites??? It looks great Tony! rob
  17. I finished up my exhaust manifold/heat shield/stove pipe saddle/spark plug heat shields/spark plugs/distributor redo/engine detailing/oil change and filter/cooling system flush & fill today. I also removed my old ratty trunk seal and cleaned the old glue out. I test fitted the new trunk seal I got a few years ago but I didn't have any rubber seal to completely install the new one so it is just snapped I to the channel till I get the glue. I removed my old pitted 1/4 window seal chrome channels and installed my new ones along with the new 1/4 window seals. I started the old girl up and let her idle for about 15 minutes with the heater on full blast to get the air out of the heater lines and antifreeze circulating so I could top off the radiator. THEN I TOOK HER FOR A RIDE, to heat up the manifolds good to bake the new paint onto it. There is nothing better than taking a first gen Monte out for a spin after doing this much work on it....... I guess I lied about that when I said there is "nothing better". The one thing better than that is having the old girl start right up and purr like a kitten. rob .
  18. The rain cut my work time short tonight. I continued with the reassembly of the engine compartment. Installed the new rotor, distributor cap, air conditioner compressor brackets and compressor, power steering pump brackets and pump but no belts yet. I got delayed a bit tonight because I ended up with an extra bolt in the bag I had for the Air Conditioning compressor. I broke out the assembly manual and finally found where it belonged. I didn't even remember removing that bolt. I also installed the PCV Valve Grommet. Coming along fine, just need more time to work on it. Rob
  19. Larry, It looks like they may work ok but in the last picture I noticed a difference in the placement between yours and the picture Murphy sent. If you look at the clip on Murphy's where it does its rise up from the dash pad. It looks on his that that rise happens on those clips on that side happens nearly 1/2 way into the area of the speaker but yours appears to be 1/3 of the way into that speaker. Like Sam, said, the wider clips may present an issue in allowing alignment side to side. I think I would have tired to cut them down to closer to the two factory ones you had. Good Luck!! Rob
  20. I have gotten a little more done on the Monte. I re-torqued the exhaust manifold bolts, installed the valve covers and torqued them. As per the instructions that came with the gasket's and the gasket seal, I allowed the gasket to take a seat for a couple hours and re-torqued them. I installed the new spark plugs, plug wire retainers, plug wires, and all other wires which had been removed. I looked at the distributor cap and rotor and they were both looking shabby so I got new ones. The heater hoses are reconnected using new tower clamps because the old ones were looking a bit rusty. I have ordered a new radiator hose from Lutty's. I still need to install the new Rotor, Distributor cap, radiator hose, vacuum hoses, new radiator hose tower clamps, and a few other items. I need to refill the radiator with Anti-Freeze, change the oil and filter and other house keeping items and do some cleanup and she will be ready to roll. rob
  21. Sure it is a sporty color Aaron. I love the color of your car. Rob
  22. If you are concerned about over or under torquing them I would jus check the manufacturers recommended torque specs. Rob
  23. And then back them off just a llittle. Rob
  24. There is no way of knowing because when registering them the fact they are a Custom, SS, vinyl top, two-tone, etc., isn't usually stated on the registration. Rob
