  1. It sounds to me like it is temperature related. First thought is coil. Simple to change out to diagnose potential problem.
  2. I had the same problems years ago. I simply put a cheap aftermarket air cleaner (as mentioned before) and took the car to another inspection station. If not sure where to have it inspected, explain your problem to auto parts employees and they should be able to help you....
  3. Mike provided excellent advice.
  4. I have 50 series on mine with 2 1/2 exhaust with welded 3" stainless tips. Mine are plenty loud but comfortable at highway speeds. Be aware that the cam you are running can make a big difference with the tone of the exhaust.
  5. If it was white smoke it would be oil but black smoke indicates it is running rich. The first thing I would check is the choke. Sounds like it may be partially closed when you are at operating temperatures. Remove the topo of the air cleaner for verification.
  6. I think a fan clutch would help. Sounds like you aren't getting enough airflow through your radiator. Sounds like you are getting more heat from the torue converter slipping (going up hills). Adding a transmission cooler in front of the radiator should help. If transmission fluid temp is high then it will seriously affect the longetivity of the transmission.
  7. Sounds like the starter needs shimming to me.
  8. A very special thanks to Fred for providing the solution to my problem. I was able to recover all but one folder and it was one that I can live without. It is very rewarding to see we have such great people on our forums that are willing to share their information.
  9. I have Windows XP and Outlook Express 6. I was asked if I wanted to Compress the files or something like that and I responded yes. While the files were being "compressed" I accidentally clicked on delete files and in fact deleted all my email files. I get no results when I attempt to restore my files, it will not allow me to. Is there any way to restore my emails?
  10. I just recently flushed, drained, replaced hoses on my 71 and didn't have to do anything to the proportioning valve. Now is the time to check and replace your hoses. If you do check for new copper gaskets before you leave the store. I was missing one gsaket for the banjo fittings.
  11. It is possible that you got the wrong master cylinder. If you have disc front and shoes one the back the correct one is 1 1/8" bore. If you got one for manual brakes then the rod is too short and will not depress the plunger on the master cylinder.
  12. I have Patriot Exhaust H8056-1 and really like them. I have had them for over three years and the ceramic coating looks almost like new. I don't think you will notice a power difference between them and full length headers.
  13. Running hot is often corrected by replacing the fan clutch.
  14. I am sure you want to retain your heater and defroster. I don't know if you will still have that operational. I am sure there are others that can confirm this or not.
  15. To see when the stall speed is just put your foot on the brake and give it the gas. If the RPM only goes to 1,600 RPM or whatever RPM then that is what your stall speed is and you know if you need a different torque converter.
  16. I think you need to check the basics first. I would first replace spark plugs (cheapest) then do a compression check. If still a problem I would also bet on the carb.
  17. One thing you haven't mentioned is what rear end ratio you are running. A 3.55 is a good compromise for fuel mileage and performance. If you are running 3.08 or numerically lower gears you will have a problem with that cam/lockup converter combination.

Did they have a mask on when they quoted you that price? That is an outrageous charge to replace lifters. That is a 3 hour job at the most and a set of lifters about $100.00.
  19. Not sure how wide my rear end is but certainly not as wide as the wife's!!!!!!1
  20. If you install the 200R4 you can use the same driveshaft as the 350.
  21. These are the headers I installed about 3 years ago. Still look like new. http://www.jegs.com/i/Patriot-Exhaust/737/H8021-1/10002/-1?parentProductId=751612 The only intereference, you may need to relocate your proportioning valve.
  22. There shouldn't be anything coming out of the A/C lines unless the A/C compressor is turned on.....
  23. Kevin, how do I do that?
  24. Ian, Thanks for the suggestion. I have Windows XP and tried the "How to reenter your password in Outlook Express" procedure but it still doesn't work. The guy from Outlook Express walked me through that same procedure also and it didn't work then either.
  25. For the last two weeks or so I have to log in everyday before I can send an email on Outlook express. I have contacted their help line and have not had any luck. I can receive emails but not send without loging on every day. I am not able to check the block that says to keep logged in. Any suggestions?
