  1. I was out of the room when it crossed, I think this was the closest, I just heard the announcer at the end of the auction. I may be wrong lol
  2. I didn't take the pic Willie so I can't tell ya anything except what you see in the pic. If it was Dennis's back yard you'd probably see some 2x4's peeking out through the shrubs planning their next attack
  3. I'm still hoping Glen gets involved in the bidding, Dennis has lots of checks and needs another project 🤣 I'm a tad cynical on the auction pictures as a rule 🙃 Last mecum auction I went to a " recently restored" FG had a beautiful paint job, only problem was the rust was already bubbling up... I see 2 other FG's registered for their Chattanooga auction
  4. I had to laugh with the braided hoses. And yea I did that back in the day, along with my upgrade to a cassette deck and an equalizer under the dash 🤣
  5. I'm glad you didn't go that route with your blonde friend in the lawn chair, or at least didn't share it with us !
  6. Ran across this photo this morning, thought I'd share
  7. Well there ya go, as we say there's more than one way to skin a cat 🤣 I understand your predicament Nath, you can only do what ya can. Ive paid for an inspection in the past (that's why I mentioned things missed like the fuel gauge not working 🤣) and the resource page will help you help them on where and what to look for. When I joined this forum I knew nothing about Monte's, and as you can see the members here are more than willing to share their knowledge and experience. I hope it all works out for you, and you and your son can enjoy many memories with the car. Keep us posted
  8. I'll disagree with Dennis on this one 🤣 The owner says "numbers matching" (and no I didnt go back and look through all the pictures posted) are there pictures of the casting numbers (block/trans/ect) ? I don't want to be a Debbie downer but unless you get eyes on it pictures can hide a lot. Visit the resources page (link below) and get all the data/info you can. Yes a plane ticket adds to your cost, and yes there are honest people selling cars, but with my money I want eyes on it and be driven. Stupid little things like the gas gauge doesn't work can add to your money and time spent. As mentioned, rust is your biggest enemy and extremely expensive, Theres probably nothing you run into that the members here can't help you through, but knowing up front eases the pain lol https://www.firstgenmc.com/forums/index.php?/resources/resourcespage/
  9. Below is the link from this site that explains what a build sheet is. If you click on the resources link there is a ton of data info about our Monte's. As mentioned, since the car is in Australia you save a ton of cash on shipping. Also previously mentioned the values are going up, and you probably won't see another Monte on the road anytime soon. Since nobody has spotted anything obvious yet from the pictures I would say go look at it and drive it. The bottom line on value is as we say, its only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. And remember with a 50 year old car, things are going to break 🤣 luckily for you this site has lots of members with experience and knowledge that are more than willing to help you through those times. (edited) Also check in with others that have old chevy's in your area. Where do they get their replacement parts, shipping from the states can get a little pricey. Good Luck https://www.firstgenmc.com/forums/index.php?/resources/buildsheet/
  10. Ive posted the link of the car, so the more experienced members can get a closer look at it. The ad says it came from GA in the US, maybe also someone here knows the car. https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/1971-chevrolet-monte-carlo-auto/SSE-AD-7460152/?Cr=0
  11. Good morning Nath, or good evening for you . Welcome to the madness. It sounds like your looking at a particular car to buy, posting pictures of the car will help members take a look at any visible issues they see and possible problems.
  12. I'm wondering why you have a ground strap on the flashers? Maybe someone who had to change theirs can explain. I did a quick search on the superbrightled website and their flashers are 2 prong, no mention of a ground strap. On the unit I installed the notes say do not use a heavy duty flasher. Again just throwing out ideas, since it seems your doing something different than I did
  13. I would agree with Scott in the first step, possible ground issue. Did you get any trouble shooting tips with your instructions? I think there may be 3 suppliers of the kits, not sure if they are all from the same manufacturer. I'm going to assume you went with the pig tail also in the rear tail lights. My instructions came with a specific note on what flasher can to use and which one not to. Also my instructions were for a 70 to 72. On my 70 I didn't have to replace the flasher cans or any other bulbs and I only did the tail lights. That being said, and comparing apples to oranges 🤣 on my 73 blue oval car, when I went with the LED tail lights I had to also change out the 1157 front turn signal bulbs to LED. I also changed the side marker bulbs to LED, don't remember if that was a requirement. My buddy ordered the same kit as me except for his 69 Camaro, he did have to change the flashers. Since he only drag races I doubt he's ever used the hazard or turn signals with the headlights on so no help there ☹️ Just throwing a bunch of stuff out there
  14. Well definitely the right state. Article says Will County Auto Rebuliders Association usually gets around a 700 car count.
  15. Just checked mine both sides, obviously from the thread isnt factory, so must have been done by the PO. Not the right placement according to Dennis.
  16. don't know Willie, looks red ? That was the only posted picture of the Monte I saw
  17. Hey Robert, you don't have to bring your Monte to attend a meet, you'll still have a good time. And since you've thrown down the gauntlet, as Dennis said you can expect the grief either with or without your Monte 🤣
  18. I get it, just being selfish or trying to live vicariously through your exploits 🤣
  19. Beautiful and sounds great, about time you got your butt outta the lazy boy 🤣 Would have liked to see the burnout, or at least the aftermath
  20. Thanks for clarifying Rob, obviously some of us have a had time with math and English among other things 🤣
  21. Yea mine says "experienced", I just figured that was for my age not my Monte knowledge
  22. As mentioned prior, its all about your engine requirements , just like oil on some old cars, gotta have the one with zinc in it. On a build I did years ago, ran AV gas but had to use a lead additive.
  23. I don't think anyone would mind putting eyes on a car for someone if it was close to them. I'd be hesitant "as a club" to offer that as a service. The reason I added the link to my un-translated post is they appear to work on American muscle cars, I don't know the safety laws/standards but if my memory is correct (yea just like my math ) ive read that people have had issues "plating" and American car in Europe. Ive seen a bunch of muscle car videos from Europe, so it can be done just don't know the hoops you have to jump through When I was stationed overseas, I remember guys who bought European cars sold them when the transferred out because the cars didn't meet American safety standards and it was costly to have them updated.
