  1. Thanks for the reply, I feel like I followed the directions pretty well but I cant see the #9 & #10 connector position without taking it all apart. The directions actually say to replace the drivers side sending unit. The passenger side looks like a broken sending unit that went to a TCS that has been deleted??? I was checking the gauge with a multimeter but just ended up confusing myself. I'm taking it to my mechanic once the snow melts.
  2. I got the sonnie24 kit to switch from idiot lights to gauges, new printed circuit, gauge and sending unit for temp. My gauge goes from zero to pegged then goes back to zero, its all over the place. If I hook the sending unit wire directly to ground it pegs. Is the sending unit bad out of the box? Can I test continuity or ohms or something with it on the car?
  3. OK picture of the new unit. Have no pics of cars and coffee but there was over 1000 cars there, most ever
  4. Just finished up this project, took the wiper motor off and the hood off to gain access. Running good, stopping good, Speedway motors had my parts, they used to be more of a race car shop but they have what I need for my Monte so big shout out to them. If you are ever in Lincoln NE check out their museum, it is super cool. First cars and coffee this morning there, I drove the monte (without hood)
  5. yes I did bench bleed it. Defanetly have firm peddle. Car was idling rough when I test drove, turns out its cause I have a massive vacuum leak from my power booster.
  6. So that master cylinder wrong, bad or both. Got a different one that is correct. Took a long time to get system bled out, but now I got firm pedal but little brakes. Diagnosed it to bad power booster. Can I get booster out without disconnecting master cylinder again. Reeeealy don't want to bleed it again.
  7. So my master cylinder went out, ordered a new one from autozone. Ordered a NM1494 cause it looked like my original. Supposed to be new. got one that looks like the picture of a M1494, which is rebuilt. I think their website has the wrong pictures, I think what I got would work, but I want to make sure I got what I paid for. Anyone with experience with this?
  8. So what is a barrel nut, how do you install it after paint? I'll be doing the same thing soon.
  9. Saw this RORL on the guide and DVR'd it. Great if they are doing something for some one who deserves it but... like stated, 2 knuckle heads to LA to pick up some wheels they didnt even work on? Whatever...
  10. I live on a gravel road so I dont like the silocone kinds they atract dust terriblly. Years ago I used a product called "new tire" it lasted a long time. Aparently they dont make it anymore. I heard water based kinds dont last. Whats everybodys favorite?
  11. I did repin the connector. The instructions were a little intimidating at first but I feel like I did it all correctly. Installed the new temp sending unit that came with the kit. I have a meter if I knew where to check for voltage or ohlms of whatever.
  12. I just finished installing the sonnie 24 guage package in my '70. The temp gauge was alternating from zero to max the first time I drove it, now just stays at zero. Couple cluster lights dont work, the printed circut seems a little fragile. Electronics are definatly my weak spot, any ideas how to diagnose?
  13. Bought sonnies guage package. Leaned the dash in to remove cluster, looking at the filth behind, the snowball started rolling. Took the dash completly out cutting the ground wire on the lighter cause I couldnt figure out how to get it out. Its pretty rusty. How do you remove it?
  14. Thanks, found what I need at Hi Tech Classics. Ordered it up yesterday.
  15. I would like to replace my idiot lights with factory guages in my 70 454SS. A search shows sonnie24 on ebay but appartently is no longer around. Anybody got a good vendor for a kit to do this?
  16. So here's the thing about insurance. Its meant to cover your losses. Agreed value is great caused it dosent matter what you have, your premium covers what you claim you lose. I spent 12,000 , put in another 4000, so I insured it for 20,000. I would be devistated if somrthing happened cause I looked for this car for 3 years but value is what it is. Chevellels just like our Montes sell for twice the price, so its hard to go by any kind of " book value". I spend aboiut $230 a year for my 70 454SS through Hagerty, I think its worth it.
  17. DROVE IT! Put it in the garage a month ago for the winter to start working on some stuff but a bathroom project got in the way. It was 60 degrees today so we drove it to "Toys R Us" (well it used to be, now its a huge liquor store) and got some good stuff for an evening in the hot tub. Sposed to be cold and snowy next week so maybe now I'll take it apart.
  18. Do not glue the whole thing, just the edges. Mark your bows where they go, start in the middle and work your way outward. You will have to cut open the sleeves the bows go through to make it fit. Finding where your dome light, coat hook and shoulder strap holders are is a little tricky but just take your time. I used 3M 1357 contact adheasive I get from work, its good stuff.
  19. I had air shocks on my 75 Monte back in the day, jacked it up real good. Going for that funny car look I guess.
  20. My other "cool" vehicle is a 2006 Dodge Power Wagon, one of about 1600 produced that year. My daily driver? a 91 S-10. In rust we trust.
  21. Very cool, reminded me of a photo I took of a chevy truck at a recent car show
  22. My car was missing the LH under headlight trim when I bought it, Thought I had a Good history of the car since I got it from the 2nd owner. However I have found diferent paint on the edge of the LH fender so the fender has been replaced at some point. I got a pair of used trim on ebay and the LH is corroded pretty bad, dont think it can just be replated. They are pretty similar so the RH would probably fit on the LH fine. Kinda bugs me but nobody else would probably notice
  23. My passenger side hinge was bent so I got a repop from OPGI. They offer a GM pair for $580. It leaned inboard bad so I pouned on it with a sledge hammer and got it looking somewhat better. Installed and now the drivers side sits too high. Doesnt make sense other than new one is stiff at the pivot points and original is loose. It rubs trying to close it. I think I need to start over with a new pair, anybody had luck with something less than $580?
  24. Finally getting back to this problem. Car is a 70, got a new motor, hooked it up, hit the switch, the wipers moved about 1/2". Now nothing. The ground strap is good, the terminals have little prongs so you cant hook it up wrong. The motor shows zero ohms across all terminals (dont know if this is good or bad) Now what?
