  1. Is this a full one piece pan or something you can put in from the top? If it requires lifting the body off you should weld some tubing into the body to keep everything square and stable.
  2. When I first started my project, I bought a couple cheap harbor freight spot weld cutters. I was convinced they were all garbage after using them. I then went to a supplier and bought a Blair brand spot weld cutter and I've drilled dozens if not a hundred welds and it hasn't broken a tooth yet. Wish I would have gotten a good brand from the start.
  3. So I finally got the gap closed up and the wheel houses are welded in. The quarter is 95% welded on except the rear and around the rear window. Going to get the rear window filler panel put in before I button that up. I ended up removing about a quarter inch section of the front of the outer wheel house where it meets the rocker panel. That allowed me to rotate the wheel house slightly. That helped the gap. After that it was lots of test fitting and using clamps to get it in position. Im pretty happy with it. I talked to a body man that has worked on several A-bodies over the years and he says the wheel houses didnt fit very good straight from the factory. Ill try to get some pictures up.
  4. AMD is the best option available for aftermarket panels today. Not much of a choice. But thanks for the useful advice.
  5. This is a picture of what I'm talking about. Taken from inside the wheel well.
  6. Looking for some advice here. I'm test fitting the rear quarter and wheel houses. The outer wheel house lip is not mating up with the quarter lip. How much space do you guys have? I'm guessing my wheel house lip is a half inch above the quarter panel lip. The passenger side is factory and has about a quarter inch of space. What's acceptable and normal here? Thanks
  7. Just getting the rear of the car in order. Inner and outer wheel houses, and trunk floor extensions. I'm not a real body shop guy, just been around the trade, so I'm feeling it out. I'm replacing so much metal that I don't have many reference points. Hope I don't screw it up too bad.
  8. Got a question. Does the front of the inner rear wheel house get sandwiched between the lower part of the rocker and the floor board? Or does the lip of the wheel house rest on the lower part of the rocker? I can't remember and the other side is so rusted I can't tell. Thanks
  9. Thats close to the price I was thinking. I thought it might go for a max of 16k. The trans leaks don't really bother me. It just seems like a nice driver. But everything is more expensive lately.
  10. https://www.proxibid.com/1972-Chevrolet-Monte-Carlo/lotInformation/66590699 Not original or a real SS, but it looks like a nice car. Price seems high to me but I'm not up to date on what they are bringing.
  11. Thought I would just add to this ancient thread with a new pic. Since I didn't get anything done but motorcycle riding this summer I was going to get to work on the Monte while it's cold out. All new wheel houses, trunk extensions, and full quarters on order. Now I'm being told AMD is backordering the quarters until mid March and the wheelhouses until May. Out of all that I ordered I got one inner wheelhouse and a trunk extension...for opposite sides.
  12. It was a complete car in 2019 but needed a ton of work. So I pulled the body off the frame and began replacing sheet metal. Here is one of the threads I made with pictures. It's no wonder I started messing with motorcycles. By the way the picture below isn't mine and don't know why it shows on that link. Mine was never that nice 🙂
  13. Well at least I'm not the only one. The bad part is that the same thing happened with this same car in 2003 when I built my first big boy bike. Got a good deal on a basket case Softail and thought it wouldn't take long to build. Then several different builds of that same bike and it's like 5 years later. Then it's time for bigger touring bikes.... I'm not sure building motorcycles is cheaper, but there is so much less sheet metal. Here is that bike in it's current configuration. And of the poor Monte. I gotta get my [censored] together...
  14. Wanna know how to derail a project just when you have some money to throw at it? You buy another one of these...... Havent done a single thing to the Monte all summer because the weather has been too good. ( Yes its possible) Im going to get back after it this winter. I wont have an excuse. Other than spending a large portion of my car budget on two wheeled toys. Anyone else put off the car for other projects or toys?
  15. Same here, body off the frame and brought it up from the bottom. The back end up as high as I could get it, then slid forward to overlap the rear of the floor pan. One thing im concerned about is it looks more narrow near the inner wheel houses. Like a half inch from touching the wheel houses.
  16. One piece AMD with the rear chevelle mount cut off. Just tacked in place right now but it lines up pretty good with the original.
  17. The donor of that tail panel was a 70 from California so I'll have to fill and drill. I was hoping my SS emblem would bolt up but no such luck. I'm hoping to get the body set on the frame soon to check out the trunk floor fit , before I start welding it up.
  18. Yea I'm going to have to drill new holes for the SS emblem. At this point I wish that was my biggest problem.
  19. I haven't been working on it as much as I should but it's slowly coming back together. New trunk floor tacked in place as well as the replacement tail panel.
  20. Yes I have the other halves. Just didn't include them in the picture. Thanks for the help the other night.
  21. No these are from OPG. I bought these for a previous 70 Monte I had about 200 years ago. Been so long the box disintegrated. But they have always been inside so I'm using them. The originals were almost non existent.
  22. Hey guys, it's been awhile. I'm going to set the body onto the frame soon and I can't remember where the different body mounts go. All the diagrams I've found aren't very clear. Anybody remember? Thanks
  23. The well plugs are kind of an over blown problem. Not as many leak as people think. You can put a slight bend in a 1/8 rod and drive them out from the top and replace with the rubber o ringed set if you like. Then seal with j b weld. As far as the flooding issue, do you have the return line from the tank hooked up to the fuel pump? Should be 2 lines hooked to the pump. If one is plugged off the fuel in the line can become hot and expand. Forcing its way past the needle valve. Does it give out a puff off white smoke when it starts?
  24. Yes I'm hoping to find a nice tail panel or a decent parts car. Have had 3 parts cars over the years and got rid of them all after I thought I had all the parts I needed. Why did I do that? I'm thinking I'll save the brace pictured below, and weld it to the new panel. I need the 2 holes for the bumper bracket. This is all preliminary guessing right now. Thanks for all the info.
