How many of you have pulled your hair out trying to figure out how to replace your 1st Gen rotted out tail panel?... I searched for days looking for a solution to find out there really aren't any replacement parts for this. You've got to find a donor car that is in good shape. Next to impossible. I started digging in, cutting, measuring, and finally dove off the deep end not knowing if there was any water in the pool. Not sure if anyone has tried this, but I always thought wouldn't the 1968-1969 malibu/chevelle work?...

I purchased this and modified it. The trunk lids are the same and the shape is basically there. As I started cutting mine away, EVERYTHING was just rotten. You'll see by the pictures that by the time I stopped cutting, there wasn't anything left. Let my pictures tell the story. If i had to give some advice, the old adage, measure twice cut once... Well, measure 1,000 times and cut once. 🙂
I'm very please with my results thus far. I ended up buying new quarters as well and the fit is turning out quite nice. I've started the mount for the tail light extensions, but feel that some creative fabrication will be necessary.
Check it out! Let me know what you think.

Hello all,
Newbie here. Exited to be a part of the site.
So, Have I lost my Mind? I've been auto x-ing my Monte for years now. Actually able to trophy a few times believe it or not. My Grandfather helped me buy it back in 1992, so I have a love affair with it as all of you do.
December 2019 I completely tore my Monte down to the frame for a full Resto-mod/pro-touring restore. I have since purchased a 2017 Camaro rear sub frame to weld in for an IRS. I am boxing the original frame along with x bracing for strength as well. The inspiration came from the lack of $30,000 in my bank for an Art Morrison or Roadster Shop Chassis. The project is nearing year 2 and I've made some progress. I want to share with you all to see what you think.
I look forward to chatting with all of you and seeing your projects as well! Thank you for looking
