  1. Thanks a lot.... good old gunk, I'll give it a try..........my back won't take the toothbrush treatment...but I will probably take the valve covers off......they have only bin off once in 160 k......I snapped a push rod guide ear .......replace guide and push rod and lifter..... I enjoy working on it again.....it sat for 20 years......
  2. I bought my car in 73 [it's a 72].........I washed the engine bay down over the years and it's not too bad, but I want to try to get it looking new again....it has given me 165 k miles and still running like new.......so it deserves to look like new๐Ÿค— ......... I would like to know if there are any new products on the market that I can try??.... I would think that a good power washer and some elbow grease would work the best, but I'm an old timer now and the elbows aren't greased the way they used to be ๐Ÿ˜‰ ...... Thanks for any suggestions...
  3. LONG time to reply....the gauge was intermittent [I hate intermittent]........anyway it turns out that the column switch was not making good contact.......when i turn it on and turn slowly.......I get a good reading on the gas gauge..........old goldie fixed itself again ๐Ÿ˜Š
  4. I don't doubt the odometer, if that is how I sounded, ..........I have a 2013 impala sitting in my garage right now with 40,000............I have to put a trickle charger on it, in between wax and dust..........that must have been how your monte got treated for a lot of years๐Ÿ™‚ I bought my 72 in 73, but it did not set in the garage.........we put 160,000 on it before it got a rest..........I am slowly trying to make it look like yours once again.......if i live long enough........ I like my impala, but it's a lot more fun cruisin in my monte....
  5. The odometer is hard to believe, but the rest of the car doesn't lie.........very nice..........it must have been sitting in a vacuum all these years !!.....nice ride......I can't tell if it is mohave gold or another gold..........or" pure gold" ๐Ÿ˜‰
  6. Ok David thanks, I'll run the wire to a new ground on the body and give that a try before I drop the tank again............ I worked with Rodney Ziemer some years back...............would he be any relation..........??
  7. Gauge goes way right to 3 o clock and stays there [when it doesn't want to work] but it seems like when i get ready to drop the tank and figure the problem out, it will start working again..........anyway I would say intermittent........ here is the story: I put a new tank in it and didn't drive it after the tank job for a couple of months.......I filled it with gas and noticed the gauge was not working, so I got under it and discovered a ground wire out of the front of the tank that i may have "half assed" a splice, so i soldered and taped the splice, { into the original wire going to the body] ......the gauge worked after I redid the wire.........but has quit and started several times since.......I'm thinking that I will have to drop the tank and check the other end of that ground wire........Has anyone else had this problem?? I had thoughts about selling this car, but since I started working on it and driving it again.......I'm thinking that some else will have to make that decision after I'm gone๐Ÿ™‚
