  1. Well, the good news is that I bought some new flare nut wrenches and flare nut crows feet for the tool box.
  2. Thanks Cody. I'm guessing that the flare was seated pretty well as it didn't leak until now. I will check to see if there is a mark on the line and go from there.
  3. Has anyone had issues with leaky brake proportioning valves? The current one was installed 4 months ago and is already leaking. My Chevelle buddies are saying they have had the same problem with the brass ones. Are there any cast iron ones available?
  4. I pulled out the old ac pump and installed the new one. The car is running great. The plugs on the bowls sealed up nicely as well. Thanks again for your help.
  5. Thanks David. I just received my carb kit from Cliff yesterday. The rubber boot installed on the original pump didn't fit very well. The kit from Cliff has the new accelerator pump with the Ethanol boot installed. I will pick up some JB weld to seal up the leaky bowls as well today.
  6. Thanks Mark. It looks like I only need about a half inch more to be able to pull the shifter into first gear. Without the rod, can I still get the key lock to go back to the position needed to remove the key? Anyway, it is so close, I will keep trying to adjust it and try to pick up just a little more travel on the tranny linkage mount.
  7. Does anyone know if there is a different bracket or a way to adjust the bracket connecting the rod that connects the transmission to the steering lock rod. ARH headers went on perfectly but I cannot pull the shifter into first gear without the bracket hitting the top of the header tubes under the car.
  8. Does anyone know the standard length of the accelerator pump shaft for a "71 Quadrajet? I'm seeing lengths from 2.43" to 2.76". I didn't want to pull the existing pump out if I didn" have to. Also, can anyone explain the reasons for the different lengths performance wise? Thanks!
  9. Thanks for chiming in Mark, Yeah, under the car when we were wrapping up the header install, I was really happy on how well everything went and the clearances, including the trans linkage. I am guessing but there might be some adjustment in the linkage to allow about another inch or so of movement.
  10. Gtreetings all! After working through some driveability issues with the Monte Carlo, I am happy to say that I am getting close to having the fuel issues worked out. I had to drop the tank and clean out all of the crap, replace the sending unit, fuel pump along with a carb rebuild. The accelerator pump rubber diaphragm didn't really fit well and I will order an new pump today. The float bowls on the carb seem to drain out overnight and it takes a while to start after sitting. I will address that when I put in the new accelerator pump. I installed Headers this weekend and everything went way to easy. ARH is the way to go in my book. I do have a problem with the transmission linkage hitting when I tried to pull it down into first gear. Does anyone know if there is a modified bracket that would allow a little more movement of the linkage? Thanks!!! Jeff

Hey Rob, I'd like to complete the process of membership by sending you a check. It looks like there are some changes going on with the site/process. Please let me know how to proceed. Thanks! Jeff
  12. WOW! Reading thru all of these has been very entertaining and enlightening. What a great forum on headers. I'm starting to think maybe just stay with stock exhaust. Nah, I've had spark plug issues before with certain crappy headers even with small blocks. It sounds like ARH is the way to go. With the floor shifter, will I need to modify linkage? I thought I read that Summit has parts needed.
  13. Thanks Scott and all of you who have chimed in. I finally had a chance to take a drive yesterday after we finally dried out from the week of rain. Went by a few buddies houses to show her off and turned heads everywhere. Looking down the long hood of the car took a little getting used to but I felt real comfortable by the time I got home. I noticed a few things that will need to be addressed and have seen the discussed in your forums. Fuel gauge is stuck showing full. Fan blower isn't working but these are all part of the game. My drive home down the expressway got a little hairy when the engine started sputtering and acting like it was running out of gas. Not I got it to a gas station and it took about 15 gallons of fuel so I know that I wasn't running out of gas. I will replace the fuel filter this am and go from there. I got the most of the history on this Monte and it is kinda interesting but and will add that to the story when I get a few more details. I did however get the original build sheet with the original keys. I will take a pic of it and add it later. I do know that the engine and tranny were gone thru back in '94 and it hasn't been driven a whole lot after. I will be adding a mild cam and headers just to make it mine. I also will be joining the club as a member. Thanks again! Jeff
  14. I like the way you guys think. I've been doing some reading on the Big Blocks. Back in the day, I knew my way around a small block pretty well. The LS5 in '71 even with the drop in compression has way to little cam. I am looking for just a little bump in performance and a nice lope. Nothing radical but very drivable. Any suggestion's would be helpful. Thanks!!!
  15. I used the incorrect lingo when I said that they had no offset. I meant standard offset. Thanks for the info!
