  1. Great score with that "AFI" it's so cool when it means something! I found this one online. A little too new, but is hard to beat!
  2. I have been collecting vintage license plates for a few years now with interesting numbers/ letters. On my drive back with my newest 70 SS from the southern U.S., I stopped in at several antique stores in Okla, Nebraska, Kansas the Dakotas, etc.and rummaged through their license plate boxes. One of the best treasures was found in Guthrie, Oklahoma. "RVD 454" from 1971 in Texas! "REVVED 454" goes well with my car!😎 Also among these are a few Manitoba test plates and a few off my SS Montes over the years. "7T1 SS" was on my World of Wheels showcar (during the late 80's) where Scotty from Star Trek asked me about the meaning of the plate. He thought it was clever, but I explained not really; the truth was Manitoba wouldn't allow a simple "71 SS" (hence the "T"). I can only hang these by the Monte on the walls of my shop, because in Manitoba, we need both front and rear plates to match. ☹ It would be cool to see anyone's license plate collection, or especially the one running on their Monte! Show your plate! Jeff 1970 "RARE SS"
  3. Yes, when I suggested that, he said he would speak with the manufacturer. I didn't follow up yet, but if you're speaking with him, you can show him these same pics I've posted. (You can tell him I'm the guy from canada who called him) over the summer. He should also sell a kit, where you'd have enough material to do your steering wheel hub, dash and console. The carpet then matches the drapes! 🤣
  4. It's a vinyl decal/ sticker with adhesive on back. Its"die cut" (to size and shape) for our cars. The problem with vinyl is thevinyl shrinks after you cut it and these fit on one end of plate, but are short (from shrinkage) on the other end. They just need to sell us a piece larger than we need so we can trim it to size ourselves. Once stuck down, shrinkage is not really an issue. Jeff
  5. I believe you're correct! The 70 has the halo, 71 and 72 was right to the windshield
  6. I appreciate all the knowledge here! Thanks again Monte Gurus! Take a bow! 👏
  7. Yes, I had questioned that as well in my first remarks; "I also see the lack of chrome trim under the headlights; were they installed on all 70 Montes, or simply an option?"
  8. You are correct Rob, Thius black and White photo was a newspaper ad. I have since found the color version (Car is dark green).
  9. Aha, so there are some without any hood spear / ornamentation. Even though this is a 71 I wonder if that's the way it left the factory? Could a person order with a plain hood? STANGEBA? You being an original owner since 71, did you have that option?
  10. I have been scouring the web for another shot of the 70 hood, but they all have spears. You guys are right...Agreed, a Pre-production Monte. Too bad, I was hoping there was yet another unsung rarity to watch for; "The Spearless Hood!" (NOT!) 😂🤣 Jeff
  11. What's missing? Here is a press release photo of the NEW 1970 Monte Carlo from GM and ran in the Evening paper on Aug.25, 1969. Whats missing? The hood spear! Did GM finalize their decision late in the game to add the spear to the assembly line? Or did they think no watchful eyes would scour these photos some 50 years later and see they perhaps used an older pre-production photo? I'm hoping someone here can share their knowledge or has other 1970 press photos showing the hood (spear, or no spear?) I also see the lack of chrome trim under the headlights; were they installed on all 70 Montes, or simply an option? "SPEAR-MONT" wasn't that a flavor of chewing gum?☝️🙄 Jeff 1970 Monte SS454
  12. LOVE that dual snorkel! My buddy offered me one just last week .... but It was just too beat / pitted so no help to me 🤷‍♂️ Yours Looks GREAT!
  13. Ya true! But then I'd need to find a 1970 interior for my 71 🤷‍♂️ *Btw, in 1987 my Monte #2 was a 71 SS with a 70 interior and a 70 grille, lol
  14. Glen, You are correct sir! The interior is original but car was painted black. I originally had plans to switch interior over to black, but I'm actually digging this color combo! My grille preference is 1971, and also a 71 hood spear. I kept the 70 grille and everything can easily change back if I ever grew tired of it (unlikely) I also added the tail light grilles trunk emblem and original upper hockey sticks, etc to appear as a 1971 from the back. The interior is all 1970. Jeff 1970-71 SS454
  15. If driving our Monte Carlos gives us Superhero status (makes us cool 😎) what takes it away? What else are you driving? For me, the differences are from one extreme to the other. The Monte has a loooong front end and tiny back end. My work Cargo van has NO front end and a long train behind it. Lets see Greg Brady knock over an egg with either! Jeff 1970 MONTE SS454 2003 CARGO van
  16. I'd be Hip to that.. It was quite a trip! Jeff 1970 SS454
  17. Here I am ready for my long drive home! Check out that ominous puddle under front of car! That's not a/c runoff! Its called a waterpump leak and introduced itself not 30 minutes into my drive! Story for an upcoming post! Jeff 1970 SS454
