  1. it is my car and perfect she is not, 37 is just a starting ask to keep tire kickers away. and yes i did ask!
  2. i know the car started as a 350 the 454 was added later
  3. none taken, i guess i did not expect to spend as much as i have. first guy that looked at it was stuck on fuel wanted to rebuild the carb at 4-500 and i still would have had the same problem. i appreciate the invite but am selling the monte and moving on. guess me and old cars were not meant to be!!
  4. no, both thought it was fuel related, after digging the 2nd found and fixed the issue. i always try to stay positive and not judge people i dont know
  5. update it was a cracked distributor and split rotor runs perfect now up for sale! thanks for the help!
  6. try google "classic car mechanic near me" go thru all reviews, look for car shows near you go there and ask the car owners where they go. i had the same issue as you and the same year car 8k later shes all fixed but more than i wanted to spend. there are plenty of great (and smart) people on this site that can and will help you. i dont know how much or how far you want to go with this but always ask questions, all the items on your list are fixable but you must find a person that only works on classic cars.good luck, keep posting updates!!
  7. thank you for the responses, fuel line was laying directly on the manifold that was fixed, vacuum line was left off carb, that was fixed better but still missing a bit when floored, distributor is next , then maybe new spark plug wires we shall see!
  8. i have a 1972 monte carlo with an after market 454 the serial numbers on the motor dates it between 1976-1978 and it seems to have stumped 2 mechanics. after a short warm up car will run perfect at 30- 40 mph any attempt to go faster motor will sputter and stall, also when floored no response at all, if i let off the gas it will return to normal. have a holly 4bl that has not been rebuilt, yet. gas in tank is new and has stabilizer added. any suggestions would be welcome.
  9. does anyone know a place that has the a/c duct hose in stock? opg is backordered and cant say when they will have it
  10. thank you, i went in to the shop today they showed me all the damaged parts i guess it is possible bottom of mine is flawless as well, at least its done and done right they explained to me how lucky i was to catch it now instead of blowing the motor
  11. i have noticed there are a lot of mechanical minded people on this site i have a question from someone who is not. i own a 1972 chevy monte carlo with a 454(not original motor) ran like a beast, no knocks, no miss, idle smooth. noticed an oil leak from the head gasket area. when i took it in the mechanic told me it was leaking from the head gasket, i could see it on the lift.when he pulled the heads off he found a glob of silicone to hide the leak (not found on my original inspection) also was told heads need to be machined to make the seal even. today i get a call telling me some rocker arms needed to be replaced valves needed to be done and some push rods were bent. my question is how would the car run so good with all this wrong? the shop is highly recommended this just does not make sense to me. any help would be appreciated
