  1. Was about to create a post then saw this. I noticed on my 71 the inner fender wells are plastic, did these first generations come with plastic or metal As original? There is also a post on this topic from 2012/2013, many of the guys also expressed a full spectrum of mixed experiences in terms of how well the aftermarket holes line up. additionally I also ordered the complete gasket kit from OPG with the splash guards that attach to the inner fenders, these are rubber. I find this a bit concerning since they are so close to the manifold, I worry they might burn? any experience or opinion on this? Just finishing up a repaint, The plastic inner fenders look fine from the engine compartment but when you look at the underside of the wheel well they look kind of ratty, don’t know if I should bother replacing Which is why I ask? thanks
  2. are 71 and 72 front grills interchangeable? or are other parts/modifications needed?
  3. ok so the 72 trim with unavailable clips is the piece running horizontally at the base of the trunk? all other body trim clips are available 70-72?
  4. hey guys my 71 will be repainted white without vinyl. im guessing i can see the original white paint color code here in "resources" but are there any good color comparison charts out there someplace, where you can compare virtual swatches side by side? i don't necessarily need to keep it the original color, looking for a simple appealing brighter traditional white (arctic/polar etc) and not any type of "off white" looking to keep it simple and not complex (no pearl or specialized tones etc) thanks
  5. thanks 420 im in the middle of a repaint so im scrambling for all sorts of parts from all vendors while trying to keep a budget. may i let you know if im unsuccessful? thank you for your generous offer
  6. thanks guys i am using the opg catalog for reference, so just to clarify.... i see the "rocker molding clip retainers 22pc kit " $60 and "body side molding clips 70-72 lower" $75 for the set am i correct in understanding that even the sets dont include the clips for the tail panel trim/rear trim (the bottom rear trim piece with the marker light between the back of the rear wheel and the rear bumper?)
  7. opg is out of stock and the parts place only has a "universal" brand anyplace else i might want to try?
  8. was looking for the clips myself as i am doing a repaint did you end up finding something suitable? whats the likelihood that some of the original clips can be reused? i see the clip kits are rather expensive
  9. thanks so i will check the ground first, if its good should i assume its the sending unit? whats the likely hood of the gauge being faulty?
  10. thanks did you get that from the parts place?
  11. my 71 (non SS) has the standard dash cluster im not concerned about its originality and was thinking of simple modifications to spruce up the cluster. for starters i was wondering if there is an upgrade modern type clock that could be inserted into the existing clock opening. any ideas please let me know. thanks
  12. the gas gauge on my 71 is pinned past full not responding. any ideas as to what the likely problem is (gauge itself/sending unit etc?) or any trouble shooting steps. thanks
  13. my 71 has the original remote drivers mirror which has the thicker bezel , but does not have a passenger mirror. its in for a repaint so now is the time to address.. i see the parts place has a passenger side view to match the original drivers remote, other than that all the new pair kits seem to be the thin manual type (including morris which was mentioned) trying to decide if i should just get the new thinner/manual all around or try the passenger side "match" has anyone used the remote passenger match? if so does it exactly match the drivers side? also do the gaskets sold by the vendors match the footprint of the original drivers? im not concerned about originality. thanks for any advice.
  14. i am looking to purchase new weatherstrip for my 71 (all doors, windows, trunk etc) i tried the parts place as others have recommended but their on line catalog leaves a lot to be desired. has anyone had luck with any one particular vendor or brand for this item? i will be holding off on replacement for the doors and trunk until after paint but i need the quarter window vertical asap thanks
  15. hello i have a 1971 first generation monte carlo i will be using original 15x7 "FW" stamped ralleys i was going to use 225/70/15 tires all around but was also considering 235/70/15 any opinions on the 225 vs the 235? thanks
  16. hello getting back into my 71 after haitus whats the best place to buy specific parts for our first generation montes (parts other than the generic items we can get at any auto store) i have an old original parts group catalog, is this one of the main go-to places or are there others to consider. at the moment i am looking for the rubber that goes around the rear windows and possibly a new headliner and carpet. thanks
  17. thanks guys any pictures of the installations?
  18. Any advice on where to get one or how to install?
  19. 1971 350 I have no coolant reservoir tank on my 71 and sometimes the coolant overflows. Was there ever one on these cars, and if so where could I find one? Thanks
  20. In the process of reviving my 71 350 The fuel sending unit is erratic, I know the tank is near empty but sometimes the gauge pins past full. Is this indicative of a gauge or sender issue? I am considering replacing the tank anyway as its been near empty and has been sitting for years Thanks
  21. 1971 350 2bbl After many years of other priorities my objective is to get my 71 up and reliably running. Overall it's a pretty solid vehicle (Arizona car) but has seen very, very limited use over the last 8 years, being started maybe once every year on average. Of course i will be going through the entire car, tuneup, lines hoses etc. I have started the car several times lately and the motor "appears" to be running ok. I realize stale sitting fuel is not a good thing, So i know i am starting with a reliable base, My questions are... 1) should i have the carb rebuilt 2) should i change the gas tank Fuel stabilizer was not used very much and the tank was only half to quarter full this whole time. Thanks for the opinions
  22. hello all i know this type of question has been addressed many times before and can be found somewhere on the forums but as individual taste varies widely a need a basic idea and starting point for my "particular" objective vehicle.... stock 71 350ci with AC objective.... to slightly raise the vehicle evenly all the way around for a "beefier but modest raised stance" using either 4 original 15X7 "FW" rally rims OR 4 original 15x8 corvette "AZ" rallys. with the same size tires all around i wish to avoid cutting or trimming the wheel wells or using air bags or air shocks. what type of spring/brand would be best suited for this and what size tire on which rim do you think would give the best look. thanks in advance for the advice
  23. any series/size recommendations?
  24. 1971 350 i just went to wallmart and entered the information for choosing the proper battery, it showed two sizes one being slightly larger than the other. will the larger one fit? my battery has the "side post" mounts (flat discs) i was just curious if this standard on our cars or if someone modified it in the past i usually choose my batteries based on consumer reports recommendations thank you
  25. i notice a slight humming/buzzing when using the turn signals, this seems to vary if i move the lever around. any ideas? thanks
