  1. Are you having a proper charge done?? If you are just pumping those autozone cans into your system it will never work right..
  2. Pulled my gas tank and found this...... it’s extremely fragile, just can’t believe 50 years later it’s even there.
  3. Nice and clean! So how many hours did your painter spend polishing that driveshaft?? Haha sorry... but that is a very shiny driveshaft. Thank you for the info. I went with the summit DIY kit MCfan posted.
  4. Thanks everyone. The headers came in today.. I test fitted for motivation. show ya a pic just so you know I’m not just wasting time with questions. Checked piston to valve clearance today, Ran out of energy to bolt down the heads , new 1/2” taller OEM looking valve covers clear everything fine and looks factory. Can’t wait for the pushrods to arrive so I can button this thing up.
  5. Yes... I did my research. It seems like every header fits perfectly for some while others have problems. I’m going to start with the 2455 and just cut and weld if necessary. Ordered them 20 minutes ago.
  6. We know 100hp loss is exaggerating, Im just saying maximizing engine performance is not priority here, it will run just fine with whatever headers I install. Just looking for a clean easy fit.
  7. Wow do those rusty old headers have 4 bolt collectors? I have not seen that in a very long time. My falcon had them in 4”, used some sort of industrial gasket. Thanks for the info. I’m going to go with this kit. Hopefully it has not changed much.
  8. If they fit without smashing tubes and bending things I will be happy. If they take 100hp away I’m still happy ... all I’m looking for is an easy clean fit.
  9. I’m not too concerned about overall performance of the headers. The car is not a hot rod.
  10. Sorry I’m leaving posts all over the place... this has been covered before but I’m just looking for more updated current opinions. Looking into long tube headers. Coated or not is fine. what brand (part #) fits best with little to no complications. 402 with a/c, th350. Thank you!
  11. Did you weld it all up or stick with the clamps? That sounds perfect to me. My motor is a stock 402 so I don’t expect it to sound as mean as yours. Thank you!
  12. I was poking around and summit has several do it yourself exhaust systems for the Monte Carlo. Has anyone tried one with good results? I’m not too thrilled with the exhaust shops in my area. thanks!
  13. Well I did something that might make your modern engine builder cringe... the heads were all done so I didn’t want to take too many steps backwards... I took the heads apart and measured the OD of the bottom of the spring and actually have about .010 clearance at the base of the pocket... so I grabbed my porting kit and went crazy. All good... next....
  14. Honestly I like when large stand alone parts are obviously a few shades off rather than a failed attempt at trying to color match ... I think it looks nice like that.
  15. I know what you mean.. so much time has passed and responsibility gets in the way of fun. Due to health reasons the primer and paintwork will be done by someone else. Getting old sucks.
  16. I remembered I needed the spring pockets enlarged..... it’s my first big block... gimmie a break.

    Jury Duty

I just walk in and tell them I’m not doing this.... walked out every time within 5 minutes.
  18. I’m wondering if anyone has come across this... my 402 with very low mileage and virtually untouched has bronze intake valve guides. Every part inside and out is stock GM including the metal shim style head gaskets. Motor does not appear at all to have ever been worked on but has bronze guides... any thoughts? thank you.
  19. Now you guys are scaring me.... haha.. how do those chrome “touch up” pens work? I might be ok with that
  20. I want to replace my dash vents .. it’s a 72 with factory A/C I was told the side vents are non-A/C. I need the experts to tell me what I have. And would it really matter if I ended up with the wrong ones because I’m confused.. thank you
  21. This is like asking a room full of people what pizza topping is best...

This is a long shot and sorry about hijacking an old thread... but when I was in elementary school (pleasant valley, penn valley California) the librarian was the coolest librarian in the world.. she had a car identical to this..she drove it to the school several times through the years. we had something to talk about because my mother drove me to school in her 72... probably not the same car since 30 years have passed but thanks for bringing up cool memories..
  24. My mother and father, everyone smoked back then. I remember being a child in the back seat and the car packed with smoke, windows up and heater on... then from 2001-2009 I smoked in it too... I think that’s why the rats didn’t touch the interior in the last 12 years that it sat.
