  1. Ok the tires on the old Monte are toast so if I'm changing them all what can I get away with on stock rally rims with no clearance issues and look good ..thinking a 235 60/ 15 ..anyone have a pic of a 72 with that combo and if there were any issues? ..Currently running a 225 70 /15 Any advice welcome
  2. I ran a 350 turbo behind my LS7 for 4 years and that trany is in my 57 bel air today and working strong!(I ain't easy on parts nither ) May be a fluke or just a darn good trany but I figure shoving 500+ hp down its throat is a good test for a 350 th ..I did have a B&M shift kit in it with ford type F trany fluid if that makes any difference. http://s129.photobucket.com/albums/p218/bust-er/?action=view&current=tuningthels7atthetrack.flv terry
  3. All Monte's have plastic wheel wells.......sorry it isn't a SS only thing. terry
  4. I have a very great sounding exhaust to but when we are on the highway and just cruising it is pretty quiet (except when passing) so I think you might be surprised. No substitute for a long wheel base and weight terry
  5. I found the new DVD players at Canadian Tire have a bracket that fits the fgmc headrests and plug it into he cigarette lighter, buy a pile a DVDs ........and you are all set We got about a 1023 miles to go (each way) with a hyper 4 year old. I can take a pic of the bracket installed for all of you USA fokes if you like to see what it looks like. I call it the " DAD doesnt have to pull over the car relief". Just remember fokes 10 hours of The Little Mermaid beats the heck outs "are we there yet" terry
  6. very nice car right down to the original radio knobs and it looks like there was a road leveler pump on the drivers fender so the SS odds are definitely in your favor ! Welcome and good luck! terry
  7. Holly rot; nice find! No I don't have that one. That is a rare fin indeed. The 8 track in mine does work but sounds as good as it ever did (bad !) I run a aftermarket one (Sony explode)in the glove box as I drive a lot a miles. terry
  8. OOOOps sorry double post to many beers.. Yeah right like there is such a thing! terry
  9. I here you there but I figure my first monties clock packed it in in 1973 (Canadian winters)I would go for the traditional look with the new goodies in it already. If you don't take the clock apart you would never no it wasn't the original so I'll go with it as I also want the original look to my car and it cost's a bundle to get that look !!! The dash is almost done now ......finally! What do you think ? Look like it rolled off the assembly line ? terry
  10. I just bought a new clock for mine and will be removing the old one after it gets here. The new one is quarts inside but looks just like the original! So I doubt there is a worthwhile your friend doing them . But if you still want one to tear apart, you can have the old one outta my car when I am done (It doesnt work ) just pay for the shipping. terry
  11. Yes that will work . I ran the stock Hurst shifter that came out of the camaro that the trany came out of and I still have it ! I could take a picture of it if you like and post it later in the week if you like . terry

    driveshaft

Had the same problem years ago on a Monte i bought. After putting a drive-shaft in out of a different Monte the problem still wasn't cured (to short). After looking closer I found someone had replaced the motor mounts with the later 70's /80's style and hadn't pushed the motor back far enough before welding (YAH WELDING) the mounts to the cross-member. Since the 327 was discontinued in 1969 and Monte's wern't available with them, we no the motor has been changed in your car so it is possible the mounts may have been moved or replaced. Just a possible cause in case the driveshaft length is correct of-course terry

    Crossmember

When i built my ground crawling Monte i needed all the room i could get so i took a 77 corvette crossmember and modified it to fit the Monte (exhaust passed threw it) gave a nice look and didn't beat up on the pipes. As far as a stock even the Pontiac Oldsmobile and Buick crossmembers will fit I have used all of them in the past. Good luck terry
  15. Very cool sight thanks ! terry
  16. Nope wont do a thing to it except bog when passing. I used to purposely disconnect it to tune the car for max torque. terry

  18. Hey is this what a line lock is for? terry
  19. ok had the same problem i found that a 13/16 drill bit fit with the alining pin for the shifter in the nuteral position and if you allined all the rods to that position then the reverse slightly rearward of that it was easy to pop it into reverse and if you aline the 3/4 gear ahead of the 1/2 rod it was a easy shift to 3rd gear under extreame load in a raceing condition although this was with a bourg warner super t 10 hope this helps with the muncie ohhhhhhh if you shave the door spring and use it in place of the factory spring to laod the shifter for 3/4 gear it will increace the agresiveness to promote the 3rd gear grab terry
