  1. One way to prove a vacuum leak exists is to cup your hand over the carb when it's running, not choking it off, leaving enough air to run. If the idle goes up, there's a leak somewhere.
  2. I'd be looking at the carb. With no load it's probably okay going from idle circuit to flowing fuel, but when you have load it might need more fuel in the transition from idle. Accelerator pump function and adjustment would be a place to start.
  3. Thomas makes an interesting point. My car is hanging in the air from the firewall. I might have to see what happens when I move the stands to the front.
  4. The splash shield is different, and as Aaron says, use the monte extensions. I would advise to prefit, use the majority of outside fender holes to get it set in there. The lower holes inside the fender have a lot of adjustment (big hole) so they seemed pretty good. Then you are stuck fitting the holes at the top inside the fender. I had to enlarge these, but they enlargement went in the direction of being hidden. Some of the other outside holes needed a bit of adjustment but not bad. Then I'd repaint them. That was my experience, so hope it helps you.
  5. Triple black 71 SS in great shape for $25K? You're stealing it.
  6. I was pulling things apart to put the ol 402 back in this car so the drivetrain came out. No issues with the transmission but noticed this odd groove on the front of the input shaft. Hmmm.... looked at the end of the crank and the roller bearing was shaved bits of metal. Not good. Hmmm.... that's an odd little line there.... almost looks like a crack. Compared an old picture, definitely a crack. Apparently the input shaft was custom made for these transmissions and they aren't making them any more, and the few that were left over after the Keisler bankruptcy are long gone. Can you say boat anchor?
  7. You need to contact Kevin Uilkie on here or one of the Monte Facebook sites. He has a few Montes, including an LS and is in Arizona so he might have some good leads for shops. Not sure what he goes by on this site.
  8. If you have space, Iā€™d keep it. Small blocks are cheap these days as everyone is yanking them for LS stuff and putting their old stuff up for sale. Unless the buyer is looking for your exact engine, I donā€™t think youā€™d get much for it. JMO
  9. My thought is it would be like bringing anything to the border you bought In the US, car parts or clothing. Is it under the $ limit for the length of your stay? If not, pay duty or whatever they do. An honest bill of sale for the parts would help.

If they put too much paint on, it might be hard to get them to fit. They are delicate and replacements are even more fragile. You might have to take some paint off.
  11. Ron, if you have your originals, why not get them rechromed?
  12. Here you go Carl. The original is in the bottom of course. I would say GM definitely put a pin toward the corner to help it pull in on the curve.
  13. Here are the new and original together. All the pictures are the same side. The new ones are a little shorter on the trunk edge. My originals have pins in different spots between the sides. The new ones are identical to each other and in different spots than originals.
  14. Here is my Kansas City block stamp. You can see the letters Thomas is talking about.
  15. Thanks. The L has been suggested to indicate SS. Your car would support that theory.
  16. Sweet car. Can you post a pic of the trim tag?
  17. Bummer Jay. Hope it works out in time for the meet.
  18. It looks pretty good to me right now. šŸ˜›
  19. Interesting there are a few opinions and most seem to land on metal finish. After soaking mine in evaporust, I see black paint on mine. I asked the original owner about if he ever painted anything under there and he said no. Iā€™m inclined to think they were painted black from the factory. It would be good to hear from Leo. Thanks for the replies.
  20. I see black and grey or metal finish. Does anyone know what the factory finish was?
  21. Cool post. I have my triple black 71 SS so it was hard to choose something I already had. Went with the 71 4 speed but would want the bucket console interior. I kind of made my own 5 speed version. šŸ™‚
