  1. Yea I have a 489 with a TH400. I so want to do it but wasn't sure. That's a pretty hefty cost. Did you get a conversion (kit) from a company and if so, who? Or did you just buy the trans and piece the rest together.
  2. Is it worth the $5,000-$6,000 to convert from an auto to a TKX 5 Speed? Anyone ever done it and if so, how did you like the results?
  3. Thanks guys. I just installed the shiftworks cable. Now the next question, there are a few different places to adjust the shift linkage between the trans and the shifter (both ends of the new shiftworks cable, slot in the left arm of the shifter itself, rod coming from the shift cup bracket coming off the frame, etc.). Is there a correct process to start from scratch to get things lined up correctly?
  4. I am specifically looking for seats. I have new carpet and headliner. I am just trying to get some seats that look good in there and match.
  5. Gotcha, I got the Shiftworks one on order. Thanks a ton guys! And I already have a ground strap kit for the motor, body, and frame lol.
  6. Looking for a good brand a part number for a shifter cable for my 72 with a 489/TH400. I have a floor shifter and bought one that should have fit but it's too long. I need a 29 3/4" and OPGI is backordered 6 weeks at least. Anyone know of any that are 29 3/4"?
  7. Thanks for the info fellas! No luck yet but I will keep trying.
  8. Anyone know what color TMI has that would match the 1972 Saddle interior?
  9. Thanks for the feedback fellas! I knew that people have opinions all over the board on this. It's weird how half of the people are all for synthetic and half are not.
  10. Getting ready to change the oil for the summer and I was curious what your thoughts are on synthetic or conventional oil? I have a 489 full roller BBC. I have a Straub cam and I did contact them. They said they use Maxima and Driven oil on their engines but when I asked them if they use synthetic or not they said it's all in the additive packages and that most of your high performance oils will be good. Any feedback or opinions?
  11. I added one from Painless. I put it under the dash. No issues. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/prf-70107
  12. It is pricy but I have a guy relatively close to me who has the kit with radiator, Spal fans, shroud, and the fan/relay harness for both ($1,400 on their site, which I agree is alot). I am buying it from him new in the box for $900 because he sold his car for a Vette. Be Cool, Griffin, both great buys so no argument from me on those either!
  13. Ok, I thought so but didn't want to pull the trigger without checking. Thanks a ton for the prompt feedback. Dam I love this group!
  14. I am looking at the following radiator combo for my 72 Monte with a 489. Does anyone know if it will be a decent fit? Summit site says no and DeWitts site doesn't list a Monte but this is the one for a 68-72 Chevelle. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/dwr-4139003a https://www.dewitts.com/products/aluminum-radiator-manual?_pos=7&_sid=c5bc4cdc3&_ss=r&variant=39725888110674
  15. Thanks for the tips! I think I got it.
  16. Also, is there a way to figure what PCV valve to get? My motor is a 489 with 630 HP.
  17. Ok, so I am planning on doing the PCV valve on driver's side and breather on passenger's side. I did some reading and just for the sake of learning here, will I benefit from a catch can instead if the PCV, along with the PCV, or am I wasting my time if I add that? I am just trying to learn here and on the surface, it seems like maybe the catch can and PCV valve do the same thing almost?
  18. Thanks for the info Mark! I just saw this. I will look around on Summit and see if I can find what you mentioned for the driver's side. I will have to run it to manifold vacuum but that should be the same thing. Then I will get a breather to run to the underside of the air cleaner. I am not sure if my K&N Extreme air cleaner has the port underneath for it but I will check. I appreciate it.
  19. Ok Thanks. I have done a little research on it and will do more but this helps. Thanks!
  20. Ok, and on the other side just a regular breather?
  21. So I swapped my SBC to a 489 recently. Right now it has two breathers in the valve covers with filter elements. What direction have you guys gone for crankcase ventilation? It is smoking a little from the breathers so I know I need to do something.
  22. Yep, been there. No help. I ended up talking to Mark WIlliams Enterprises and he was familiar with this and got me hooked up hopefully. The new one should be here Saturday.
  23. I have a 12 bolt with Richmond ring and pinion. I am having issues finding a yoke to work on it. The stock one slides on and off easily. I am switching to a 1350 U joint so I tried a new yoke and it will not go on. I brought it back and the shop told me that the pinion (and my stock yoke) has a 30 degree angle on the splines and the new one has a 45 degree angle. They ordered me another one and they called when it came in and are now saying that one has the 45 degree angle also. Does this make sense to anyone or does anyone have a recommendation on which yoke to get that will hold a 1350 U joint, work with a Richmond pinion, and 650 HP?
  24. Cool. Yea I got a front yoke, put it in and measured it. That all worked good, I just left the 1310 in the back. That's my plan now, get a 1350 yoke and put it in, then remeasure and have them change the rear yoke on the driveshaft and adjust the length accordingly. I just didn't know if there was a "good" or "bad" pinion yoke to use.
  25. Yea I know. I had the driveshaft made with the 1310 in the back (dumb move). Drove it around and that was all that was on my mind so now I am having the place that made it switch it to a 1350. Costly mistake. I am fortunate to have a place 15 minutes from me that makes shafts for classic/muscle cars. Thanks for the feedback, I will check these out.
