  1. I have recently acquired my dads monte carlo as a gift. It has a 402 BBC bored .30 over, edelbrock aluminum performer RPM heads, forged pistons, 10:5:1 compression, holley hooker headers, msd 6A box, 268 XE cam from comp cams, backed by a TH400 rebuilt trans and 12 bolt posi rear. Now while this is impressive, it lacks what I am going for. I have another Monte I want to drop this engine and trans in. What I want for the monte thats been in the family is a full rebuild which Ive started on. But, I am looking for ideas on whether a 90s fuel injected 454 will drop into the monte without alot of fabrication and back it with a 4l60E trans. Also, these 454s came in trucks so can they be re cammed and tuned and diff computer package to make them fast. will the aluminum heads off my 402 (aluminum performer RPM from edelbrock) fit on a 90s 454?
  2. I have a big block chevy 402 that I built with a 278 XE cam from comp cams, edelbrock performer RPM heads and intake, holley hooker headers, roller rockers, demon 750 carb etc. The problem is that I have barely enough brakes to stop. they used to be better so i think something else went out, we put a vacume can in the engine bay to improve them and a new master cylnder a few years back, I am curious if this could be the proportioning valve or distribution block which is near the headers. Has anyone ever had this problem? My second issue is that the TH400 trans with floor shifter never would stay in first to race. it shifts on its own to second sometimes. We literally just rebuilt it with a shift kit and 2500 stall and new case etc and it still does it, I thought originally it was valve body but changing it didnt help. is it true that a TH400 vacume modulater is adjustable? thanks
  3. I would go with a 402 BBC built for high perf street application and a Turbo 400 with B & M rachet shifter and a posi 3.73 rear end. lowering springs in the front with drag shocks rear. tubbed interior with rollcage. basic paint option green. rear slicks wide as hell. front drag radials. a beasty cowl hood on the front and custom grill. side louvers. exhaust through the rear bumper and a fuel cell above the rear in trunk.
  4. what shade of green is that? I remember my dad's 1970 monte is that same shade and he is about to get it repainted that color but he hasnt found it yet.
  5. I am building my dream using my army money. I bought a super t10 4 speed manual recently with the intent of converting from a Th350 to a 4 speed. I plan to front the 4 speed with a blown 502 I will buy in a few weeks. I will post pics dont worry. Anyway I bought the bellhousing, clutch kit, pedals, linage, fork, etc. I have most everything now anyway, coming in the mail and I will post them when I get home to omaha. I am getting really excited about this project. oh ya Hoo-ah!
  6. I wish you could still find chevelles in junkyards especially 4 speed ones........ thanks
  7. I am looking to convert my current 1970 Monte from a TH 350 to a 4 speed. I have a Super T10 I am getting rebuilt. I need pedals, bell housing, lines, clutch, shifter, etc. Please let me know what you have. please send pics if possible to michaelghampton@hotmail.com
  8. So I need a donor cutlass convertable? what would I ever do with the cutlass after I take the top off?
  9. a cutlass? thats interesting. I will look into that.
  10. I use Holley Hooker headers and they fit good and sound great. Mine were only $170. I am happy with them. I bought cheaper headers before and they gave me trouble all the time and they blew out all the gaskets until I bought aluminum ones. Anyway, I couldnt find anything wrong with the headers and it all looked good so I sold them to my friend with a 1970 Nva and he never had any prbs.
  11. So taking off the door handles is alot of work and doesnt work that good?
  12. Or if anyone knows how to get in touch with the few monte guys who have done this please let me know. I am new and am a very slow learner when it comes to computers and web sites.
  13. If anyone has a good side shot of a convertible Monte with the top up will you send me a copy to my email please. I appreciate it. michaelghampton@hotmail.com
