  1. You will need to get the switch harness kit that is sold at WWW.700r4.com that is what you will need to lock the convertor up for overdrive. Alex
  2. does anyone know and was the steering gear box all black and do you have pics you could send me Thanks Alex
  3. ok guys the th-350 drive shaft for a monte will not work with the 700 4r but it will work with the 200 4r with out modification. for the 700 to work you will either need to shorten the shaft a little by taking it to a machine shop or ordering a custom one from dennys drive shaft or another company. I dont know if a shaft from a diffent car will work but it would be cheaper than having one altered or getting a custom one alex
  4. a) it's a 5x5.00" pitch circle (monte is 5x4.75") just swap out the axles just make sure they are the same spline count but see next answer below... the shock mounts are in the wrong place, (they're on the front for the buick, back for the monte) those can be removed and the other ones put on but i would rebuild the one that works on your car not this one due to the amount of work you have to do. now.. the housing itself appears to be identical to my 10-bolt housing... what are the chances of me taking the posi guts out of the buick and putting them in my housing with my axles? just check and see if the diff will fit into the rear axle housing of yours and see they may have a different diameter than the 70-72 axles "dont know but would not hurt to see. Alex
  5. the vent tower is there for venting fumes from the tank and buring them off in the engine. "for better fuel mileage. depending on if your car had emissions equipment which texas does have emmisions requirements "depending on location" which if the car came with it it must keep that emmisions system installed unless it qualifies as an exempt vehicle. all in all its up to you. alex
  6. nothing real serious till murphys law comes and visits. i would pull it out though.
  7. I agree with fred on this one do tell what happened???? if it is the axle tube any machine shop should be able to replace the tube. its just plug welded to the differential housing. or go with a good used one from the wrecking yard. alex
  8. go to a junk yard for a replacement tail shaft housing you will pay less. also it seams that you may have more problems involved if it has egg shaped "out of ballance drive shaft out of spec bearings or other internals in the tranny would be my other thought" have you had any weird vibrations from the car or what not? alex
  9. its in my safe now to keep it from her and my daughter lol thanks phil lol
  10. ok the two that come out of the sending unit are fuel out "large line" and return "small line" the other three hook up to the vent tower "the three that are grouped together on the pass side of the tower" then the one by its self on the drivers side of the tower hooks up to your vapor line. that runs on the driverside frame rail, alex
  11. yes it is lovely isnt it here is a better picture lol my tank has 5 tubes that come out of the tank. two of which are fuel out and fuel return and the other three are vents.
  12. hey guys, her is a pic of my tank i droped a few weeks ago I will look at my tank and let you know tonight which goes where. alex
  13. start with the simple stuff see if the torque convertor bolts are tight and bellhousing bolts. very true on being hard to diagnose Mo's70Mc's I have a similiar problem with the 85 ss which i need to play with at a later date. would be interesting to see what it is. alex
  14. I would seriously hound autozone for it. its the second one you got that was bad they should have better quality control than that. push the issue with the store or regional manager. dont settle till you get what you want. alex oh and wallaby has a good point was it inch or foot lbs? trans bolts are in inch pounds "well for my 4L60e in my truck 80-120 inch lbs = 6-10 ft lbs"
  15. OUCH, well with the threads chase them with a thread chasing kit. the ones that are stripped out you might be able to rethread the next size up and helicoil them with a helicoil set. Take back that pos torque wrench and have them test the torque wrench "they should have a machine to do that with at the store you bought it from" if it fails the test demand a new one "and if the rethreading/helicoils dont work out then demand a new transmission from them" or have them pay for a machine shop to weld up and rethread the holes. now of course i would have stopped after the first one broke and thought something aint right with it. j/k
  16. i wanna say 7/16ths fittings on them. i might be wrong will check though
  17. going to a short nose will require replacing the rear shaft in the trans to the short shaft. you would be better off just switching the drive shaft for the one you need... "of which (driveshaft) i have one that will work for ya 50 bucks and shipping and its yours. If you plan on switching the rear shaft then take notes of end play and for and aft movement then shim it in appropriatly. or just take it to a trans shop for them to do alex
  18. buick is part of gm so i would say yes most definately it will fit. just check the trans pan and see if it is a 350 or 400 and see if it is the same as yours if so your good if not then you may need to move some stuff around "trans cross member, trans detent cable for the electric switch (this is only if you are switching to a th-400 trans) to figure out which one you have just look at the trans pan and see if it looks like a square with a notch out on one corner "th-350" or if it looks like the state of texas then its a th-400. alex
  19. cracking of the flexplate if fairly uncommon. flexplate have 6 bolts in the crank flange and 3 on the torque convertor. how is it cracking? straight in or at an angle? i would check the crank flange bolts and see if they worked loose or see if the flexplate is on backwards raise bolt area should face the torque convertor also take a look at the bolt areas and have someone turn the engine over and see if the flexplate and torque convertor wobble or if it is just the flexplate. if it is the flexplate only the mounting area on the torque convertor is out of spec/expensive paperweight. alex
  20. nice work bud but how expensive is it though?
  21. To Georges Family and Friends, My deepest and most heartfelt sympathies for you all. He was an inspiration to many and a friend of all. This will be a loss that all of us will feel. God speed to his family and friends he will be missed. If there is anything we can do please I insist that you to ask. Alex
  22. there is a rubber o-ring that is on the shifter shaft "detent cable" which would need replaced ot it is the transmission dipstick tube that is leaking "also has o-ring on it as well"
  23. go with the gear vendors under/overdrive unit it takes up to 700 horse from what i have heard on hot rod tv and you dont have to worry about setting the fluid pressure switch "probably called it wrong but it is what shifts your car to the next lowest gear for power take off verses the detent cable on a 350 tranny. "less stuff to go wrong and no messing with wiring harnesses either... alex
  24. reach across the counter and slap them! and say very loadly YOU MORON DONT BE A DUMBA$$!!! lol
