Found you pics Bill. The two opening you cut look super clean. It just baffels me that they didn't think to make the cowl functional. I assume it was for rigidity or something like that.
Solid shifting just sounds like he put a B&M shift kit in. Those are like 30 bucks. I paid a thousand for my beefed TH400 from a performance shop. But in ANY this GS cost more I'm sure.
I have been looking at these hoods and the cowl looks closed in back. Has anyone opened it up for the added air flow or does everyone just paint it as is?
Anyone done their exhaust so it exits through the rear quarter panel? I love the look of the pipes through the panel but it doesn't look feasible. What options have you guys run other than the normal pipes out the back?
Finally got the car back on the road with the new trans and driveshaft. Put about 300 miles on her with no issues. Recently she started surging when at idle. Only about 200 rpm or so, but enough that when sitting at a light you feel it. Yesterday the rpm bumped itself up to about 1500 when in park, and when I shut her down I got a little post igniton rumble. I saw some smoke coming from the driver side breather so I added a PCV to the carb last week and checked for leaks around the carb with starter fluid but didn't find any. Any ideas what would cause this big change?
Update, turns out I'm stupid. When I pulled the driveline to do the floor pans I saw a few chewed teeth on the flywheel. So I replaced it and the starter to be safe. Well the scat crank doesn't have a nipple to line up the flex plate and it can go on multiple ways. So she was out of balance. Which I should have noticed but chocked it up to the new beefier motor. Only took me two transmissions to learn that lesson, haha.
Replacing all the bushings out back and want to box the lower arms in to add some strength and can't afford aftermarket arms Anyone buy plates to weld in? If so where did you get them and were you happy? I've found some for chevelle, I assume these will fit mine as well?
Update* through some research realized that the SCAT crank that's in there does not come with a dowel pin for the flywheel. Apparently none of them do. So when I had some starter issues previously and I replaced the flywheel because of some partially chewed teeth I may not have aligned the flywheel properly for the external balance. Gonna back the trans off tomorrow and check.
Sorry, the entire drivetrain is new. 454 bored slightly to 468, Continental 9 inch converter, 168 tooth flexplate for 454 BB, Pro Sport Harmonic balancer, and a TH400. Poly mounts all the way around as well.
