  1. Definitely felt in Bayonne NJ. It sounded like a 18 wheeler was going down a bumpy street but then the house actually shook for about 7 seconds. The first measurable quake in New jersey in 140 years. They say the epicenter was either Lebanon or Whitehouse Station. Both places near Trumps golf course. Probably helped a putt go down! Quakes, eclipse....what else? Stay safe. Tom
  2. Rob, I enjoy the same Acme Herring at the stroke of midnight. Takes me back to my childhood in Brooklyn. Brooklyn Herring. Love it.
  3. Congrats Tom. You deserve retirement. I agree with all the comments but I know you will stay busy. As soon as the weather warms us maybe we can get together in Staten Island. Would love to see big red in person. Enjoy and stay safe. Tom
  4. Tom Jr. does very nice work. I know, he worked on my car and did excellent work. (In a snow storm to boot.) Keep up the good work Tom, Tom and Kevin. Tom
  5. I had a 56 Buick special. Black with white roof. Now that's a car that held the road. (Real heavy). Sold it when I went in the service. I sure wish I had a garage to keep it. Thanks for the memories. T
  6. I watched this last night and knew the boards would lite up this morning. The attention to detail about this disaster from this club is outstanding. All I did was get mad at destroying such a beautiful car.
  7. Tom: Great pictures. I wish I could have been there to show off my new gas pump and gas gauge. I'm still hoping for a good day to make it over the bridge to see big Red. Congrats on the win. You deserve it. Tom
  8. Love the cars and his sweatshirt. Faith, Family, Flag and Freedom will help with his recovery. Glad he is doing well.
  9. 49 years. My wife's uncle bought Monte in 1971. He wanted it to use for our 1972 wedding. Sadly he passed in 1973. Monte has been with us since as we celebrate 50 years of marriage in a few weeks. We will take Monte out for a spin to celebrate! Tom
  10. Great post Rob. We all need to remember that someday we may be the one waiting in our house for someone to stop by. Maybe there is a Bill in your town. Thanks Rob for setting a superb example.
  11. Noticed your fuel gauge is pegged at the 3 o'clock position. Is this a new problem? What causes this?
  12. Just want to say it is Beautiful. Enjoy. Tom
  13. Super troubleshooting. Petronix has a good product and it is obvious their personnel are very helpful. Thanks for posting. Tom

Glad that time is behind you and it is a blessing you look to the future.
  15. Now that is sweet! I would love to have that in my garage. Tom
  16. Bruce and all: Well I think old Tom has had a senior moment. I should have read Bruce's instructions better. I ordered and received, exactly the right mirror. I received a non remote (remote look alike). What I wanted was an original plain old mirror. I do not have a remote mirror on the driver's side. I returned the remote mirror look alike this morning and ordered the plain old mirror, Ausley's code OM702. I am sure Bruce's instructions will be the same for this much smaller mirror. Thanks, Tom
  17. I ordered the ROM702R mirror from Ausley's. It arrived yesterday. Unfortunately it is quite big and is not identical to the original driver;s side mirror. The write-up on Ausley's web site says "Matching Remote Mirror". I specifically asked for the ROM702R non-remote mirror. Is there a size difference between the remote and non-remote mirrors? The original mirror has about a 1/4 inch frame around the mirror while the new one from Ausley's is about an inch wide. They just don't match. I'll be calling Ausley's again this morning but was looking from some input here to make sure I should expect a mirror that is identical to the drivers side mirror. Thanks guys. Tom
  18. My 71 Monte has been in the family since it was purchased and I have had it since 1973! I thought it was time to add the right side mirror. I came across Bruce Stange's write-up and it is excellent. I wish I would have followed this procedure step by step but I didn't. I purchased product code PZ00432 from OPGI which said it was for the 71 Monte. However the mirror I received is quite different than the original driver's side mirror on the car. I wish I could post pictures but that's another story. I'll call Ausley's later and hope they have the ROM702R mirror. Lesson learned. Tom

    Carburator

Thanks guys. I will be giving Cliff a call and see what can be done. I want to keep my 2 barrel original so I'm hoping he can fit me in. The website says there is a couple of month waiting time but mother Nature is taking care of that for me. Come on Spring!!!!!!!!

    Carburator

All: My '71 has always had difficulty getting started. It is OK during the summer months but the winter drives me crazy. The choke works fine but the flapper disk in the carb always sticks. Someday I will tell you all about it but the flapper is bent causing it to stick and not allowing the choke to disengage it. I have tried to straighten it out but I am afraid the axis pin is also bent. I had the original rebuilt but it is very hard to find someone who can really do a top notch job. So........I am in the market for a new carb. I am looking for suggestions for a new carb for my '71 350. I want to stay original. I appreciate any suggestions. Tom
  21. Fantastic write-up. I will use this write-up if I ever tackle this job. Members like Dennis really set this club above and beyond expectations. Thanks for a terrific procedure. Tom
  22. Finally finished the heater core replacement. What a fun job!!!!!!! I tried for days to get the replacement aluminum core in but it never lined up. Finally bought the exact bronze core and went in nicely. lesson learned...........buy the right stuff.
  23. Sam is right in observing the coil cover is on backwards. That would fix the severe angle of the arm. I purchased a new coil spring thinking that was the cause of my cold choke problems. I recieved a coil that was opposite of what I wanted. I put the coil in the freezer and verified it coiled opposite of what our cars needed. Put the old coil back in and set the choke. All OK. I suggest checking the coil spring and making sure it is not working opposite of what you want. It could be choking off the carb. Good luck. Tom
  24. I think the rod that comes out of the coil spring should be perpendicular to the carb. The picture shows it at a rather severe angle. Are you sure that coil spring is installed correctly? It looks backwards to what mine looks like on my '71. If that coil is not working properly it will choke the carb and cause problems. Hope this helps. Tom

    air intake

A 60's choke angle guage in West Palm Beach. I love it! Thanks all, I'll work with the choke and get my all original Monte running better. I hope to get it to work, moving to WPB is a little extreme just to raise the temp in the air cleaner! Tom
