    Re; 72 SS

What I like to do with people like that is not even acknowledge them but instead when I am looking at their car with friends I will point out to my friends the errors in their way. For instance just make sure this guy is in earshot and tell your friend that there were no 72 SS made but they did do customs. Then you can further explain why this one doesn't appear to be a custom and by the vin whether or not it is a big block car. Then if he tries to contradict you it will open up the conversation for you to set him straight.

    Take a guess!

I would think second gear would top out somewhere around 100mph. I know at 80 mph my 70 SS will downshift to second if you step into it hard. It has the factory drivetrain including the 2.56 rear end. Back when I had my 72 I was following a guy on my way down to college. around 110-120 mph that car started getting awful light in the front end. You could really notice it on long sweeping curves.

    1970 SS Value

Thanks for the information and greeting. I have always loved Montes and when I found a true SS I had to get it. I also have another 70 monte with a small block 400 in it. It is suppose to be all original but I have not checked the numbers or looked for a build sheet yet. Both cars have a lot of rust on the fenders but I hope to tear into them in the next year and start restoring them.

    1970 SS Value

I am curious what a 1970 SS454 numbers matching car would be worth. It is all original with 102,000 miles on the engine. The interior is in pretty decent condition but the front and rear fenders and trunk pan has a lot of rust. What would you guys say is a ballpark price. I bought the car several years ago from the third owner. I have the original build sheet and some service and maintenance information back to 1973. I am not looking to sell the car but curious what it is worth in the current condition.
