Ive checked everywhere and cant seem to find any info on my heads. I found all kinds of websites that show how to i.d all kinds of chevy heads but i cant seem to find anything on mine. My block code is 330817, the only number on the driverside head is 458642 The only thing i could find is someone told me maybe the heads are out of an old tow truck. If you guys could help me find anything on these heads that would be very helpful. Thanks.

Ive been gettng a little more serious about doing my 400 sbc rebuild and started to reasearch a little bit. This is my first ever engine build so i have a lot of homework to do. Anyways i figured i would start to get a list going of the kind of things i think i will need. I did a google search and found budget list someone put together so i figure ill start form there, I dont have a lot of funds right now but I think now is the time to start looking for deals on some of the stuff i need. so this is what i have so far but i know i need to change alot of thing on here to get it where i want if so what do you guys this is this a good starting point? Stock crank SCAT 5.7 forged rods SRP flat top pistons Speed Pro moly rings Weld Bond degreed balancer B&M flexplate Crane 302H06 cam Cloyes true roller timing chain Clevite bearings Edelbrock 70cc Perf RPM heads - or 64cc? Edelbrock Perf RPM intake MSD HEI with rev limiter - or stick with my current distrib Edelbrock 650 carb Machining includes; Parallel deck, Torque plate hone, and internal balance with ring gear and balancer. So that my starting point and i know this will change about 50 times befor i even start working on it due to suggestions from your guys and other items i might now need to replace also whatever i find a deal on might steer me in a diffrent direction. what do you guys think?

I say when your done at the drag strip put in the 1" drop springs in the front and lift the back up again. Thats how mine sits and i love the look, i know not the best for the drag strip but looks are important too.

That might work for donny. I dont have one, if i get that set up should that take care of it?

I have the same problem with my 400sbc.

So i was looking into all of my options and i think i'm going to go with the Powertrax unit. I found it on jegs.com for cheep and reading up on it, it sounds like its easy to install and only takes about an hour. I've read some people with 10sec cars using these and i guess they hold up good. this is the one i was looking at Jegs powertrax.

Dose any know of a cheaper option like somethinkg i could go to the junk yeard for? i'm not planning on doing this but when i had my 72 chevy pickup i think the welded the gears together so they were allways locked. Everytime i took a turn the tires slipped a little.

I'm happy with the gear set up i have now, i'm not even sure what it is but just want to some posi in there for a little traction. I guess my only goal with the car is drivability and i would like to smoke this 88 Trans Am my buddy has just to shut him up. I think he would take my off the line with his posi other than that his car has a lot of low end and not much high end.

What is the stock rearend setup on a 71? I have to look agin but i think i have a 10 bolt and was looking in to a posi unit. Right now i'm Running a basic 400sbc with a th350 nothing mean but i would like to put in posi for street use. Im not looking to change out the hole thing but just a simple replacement. What options are out there for a simple swap?

I have a 72 400sbc engine code 330817. If i ship you my stock engine about how much would you charge me do do every thing you just did?
