    Back Up

Everyone is told to back up their computer regularly or you could lose many hours of work or worse, pictures of your Monte Carlo. The questions or recommendations I need (and I assume others here will benefit also)are: How do I back up my computer? What exactly should I back up? Where should I back it up to? When or how ofter should I back up? The Who is me (with your help). I see XP-pro has a BU tool and I used it one time to back up files to my WD external HD. Now on that HD there is one file labeled (Backup_Aug25_2008.bkf). What do I do with that if it's needed? Thanks, Bruce
  3. The wireless linksys we have works great for our DELL laptop, we even print from the lap top to the printer hooked up to the main PC (as long as the main PC is on) The only problem we have is after a power failure, even short blinks, I have to power down the router, wait 10 seconds, power it up again and it works. Bruce
  4. Take a look here and see if anything will work. 71 Monte Carlo Pictures Bruce
  5. I have some pictures here you can look at: Monte Tail Pipes The small dirty tailpipes are my Walker stock replacements 350 4BBL. The others are members cars or from the web. Good Luck! Bruce
  6. I found this on the web you could read over to get some information. Bench to bucket seat change
  7. My 71 came with one that stopped working after about two years and was replaced. Bruce
  8. Is it possible somewhere in time the ft clip was replaced, fenders were a different color than the body, someone taped the inner fenders off to eliminate over-spray and the line now there was the most convenient place to tape it off at. Heck, perhaps at the factory the fenders (I believe) were sprayed at a different place than the (Fisher Body) and the factory assembly line got out of sinc, so they had to spray them. Just guessing here. Bruce
  9. I can't answer your question but I think it looks better this way. I find it hard to believe GM would spend the extra money to tape off that part of the fenders in a (non class A) area. Is it a sharp tape line or is there a fuzzy line? Perhaps a fixture held the fender in that area while it was sprayed. I think the fenders where sprayed in a different area at a different time back then. I could be wrong, I'll ask around. Bruce
  10. Mine "1971" just pushes in. I just use a small screwdriver and pried up slowly as I worked my way around it starting at the bottom where there are two drain holes. Place a soft rag under the screwdriver to avoid damage to the paint. Bruce
  11. More information on this required shimming may be helpful to others. I assume the shim/s would force the converter further into the pump? Is this an issue with using the old style flex plate? Sounds like good information to have. Thanks, Bruce
  12. I worked for DuPont Automotive finishes for 25 years and recommend DuPont products. However, I first recommend letting your painter pick the supplier. If they love PPG and hate DuPont, the end result may reflect their personal preference and experience with that product. As to EXACT match, nobody will know unless they have the master color standard panel and place it on the hood in direct daylight sun. Make sure they know what year the color is for and the code if you have it. I believe it is code 78 but GM reused the color code numbers in different years and reused the color names in different years and the same color was called different names in different car lines (Pont vs Chevy vs Buick vs Olds) Hope this helps. Also check here: Paint Codes Bruce
  13. Jabo, To add a picture to your signiture, follow this: How to add a picture to your sig. Bruce
  14. Jabo, Welcome! So you are the original owner, cool. Someday I would also like to switch to an overdrive transmission for the lower engine speed and lower first gear ratio. My THM350 is original and shifts perfectly but is starting to leak again (149,000 miles now) The people here will be able to help you. Good luck, Bruce
  15. Thanks! I now have it in a WORD document in with my car stuff. Bruce
  16. I had Mac 8.6 never went to 10. Bruce
  17. With Comcast HSI we get McAfee free. Slows down the machine and checks the whole HD too often for my liking. Never had that worry with my MAC! Bruce
  18. I used Triple A enterprises over 18 years ago for mine. I see they are still in business: http://www.window-sticker.com/ Bruce
  19. Left field here, when you put it in gear, I assume your foot is on the brake and I assume you have power brakes. Try applying the parking brake first or if it doesn't work try blocking the wheels then shift into Drive. The power brake booster could have a huge vacuum leak causing the problem. What happens if you shift into Reverse? Good luck. Bruce
  20. This is yet one more question that would be a great step by step "how to" write up for our club. Perhaps put "HOW TO" answers and pictures in the MEMBERS ONLY area. With all of the modifications this group has done to their Monte Carlos, we would have a great resource for members. Bruce
  21. Jim, Could you post some pictures of your exhaust? I have a small block but would love to add your tailpipes and extensions. What diameter is the tailpipe where it exits the muffler? I know it's not correct for mine since I should have single exhaust, but I like the look of chrome tips Bruce
  22. That is what my friend's 71 Monte SS had, no chrome tips at all. I believe the "snake swallowing a rat" (I love that wording) resonators were much less restrictive. Bruce
  23. These two pictures are great, thanks for posting them. I'm sure many of us have never seen the with and with out firewall like this. Is there a spot for them in tech info? Bruce
  24. The bolts on my upper control arms at the pivot (9/16" head) came loose several times since I re-did the ft end on my 71 18 years ago. The PST kit for my car cost $179.00 back in 1990. Bruce
