  1. I really like the POR15 products also and did not know they made Chevy Orange engine paint. Excellent. I will have to order some. Thanks again to this club and its members for being so helpful, as always. Mike
  2. I am planning to paint an engine soon. What do you guys recommend for paint? Any tips on prep before paint? Thanks!! Mike
  3. There are several harnesses that make up the entire wiring system in the car. They will be different depending on the year of the car and options that the car has. Maybe not all of the wires/harnesses are bad. If it were me, I would want much more detail about the problem before deciding what to do. What harness or wires are "fried"? What does the mechanic mean by "they aren't able to start it"? I've dealt with many wire harness but would need more detail to be able to help.
  4. I am aware of (2) different vacuum differences between the 70 model and the 72 model (maybe 71 also). They are both AC cars. First: The 70 year has a vacuum canister in the engine compartment while the 72 does not. Second: The 70 year has a vacuum operated heater value while the 72 model does not. Anyone know why they are different? Just curious. Are they even needed on the 70 since the appear to be absent on the 72? Thanks!! Mike
  5. And I have the foams but no covers. Lol.
  6. I believe these are called "skins" as opposed to "full" quarters. I purchased a set of these years ago and I don't think they include the door jamb piece. Maybe they got better since then.
  7. The Legendary video is really good. Now I just have to receive my covers so i can get started. Good thing i ordered them back in March.
  8. I stand corrected. Cody is correct. ACI foams only have the vertical grooves. No horizontal ones. Sorry for the confusion. Thanks!!
  9. If you ordered new foams from Legendary, they should have "groves" in them for pulling these pockets into. I agree that if you fasten them to the springs, that is too much. I use the heavy wire from coat hangers in the pockets and zip ties to pull them towards the seat springs for the tension that looks good to you. If I ever get my seat covers from Legendary, that's what I'll be doing. Hope that helps. Good luck!!
  10. That's too bad. I was planning to attend but because of the heat and humidity, we decided not to go. I see attendance is down on most car shows this year. I hope it's not a sign of things to come.
  11. When I'm trying to diagnose a problem and don't know for sure what to replace first, I always chose the simplest, least cost part first. Wiper motor vs switch. Replace the switch first. After 50 years, it may need to be replaced anyway. Good luck!
  12. I didn't realize that Legendary made vinyl tops. I wonder if there is a 6 month wait on those also. I'm still waiting for my door panels and seat covers since March. I better give them a call. I can't wait 6 months for a top. Thanks!!
  13. Who makes the best vinyl top or are they all the same? There are some really strange sounding vendors out there and I don't want a crappy top. Thanks!!
  14. I may have some power window regulators and motors from prior projects. I don't think a have a complete set but I will check and let you know what I have. Thanks! Mike
  15. What did you guys do to hold the sail panels in place when you don't have the original fasteners? Are they available somewhere or does anyone have a better solution? Thanks!! Mike
  16. Hey Glen, when did you place your order? I placed mine in the beginning of March. So far, nothing.
  17. I agree that Legendary are the best however they currently have a 6 month waiting list. I'm somewhere on that list (I'm told).
  18. I have one on the back of my 70 El Camino that I'm going junk soon. Let me know if that might work. Don't know if it original or not. Looks like it is original to the car.
  19. My suggestion would be to get a good used pair and have them rebuilt. Best way to resolve the problem.
  20. I've had several issues with them over the past year. One time they claimed I received parts that I didn't receive and I had to take a picture on what I received in order to prove it to them. Another time I placed an order, then called back literally 20 minutes later to remove one item from the order and they said it was too late and I would have to pay shipping to return the item I didn't want. When the order was not even shipped for 3 more days. The last issue was when I ordered a side view mirror and there wasn't any mounting hardware with the mirror even though the website picture shows hardware. They told me I would have to order the $4.99 mounting kit. I spent tons of money on parts and they can't send a $4.99 part to me to solve my problem? As you can can probably conclude, I am getting very frustrated with them. Good luck!
  21. I think I remembered hearing this same discussion years ago on this forum. You will probably hear from members who had their cars from new, have floor shift cars and still have the speedo shift indicator. If I remember correctly, the assembly line workers used whatever dashes were available at the time of assembly. I have seen both over the years.
  22. I think that looks like the lead that goes to the fiber optic ash tray. That end normally goes into the gauge cluster for the background lights.
  23. I purchased a 70 El Camino a few years back as a parts car and drivetrain and have been removing parts from it as needed. The car appeared to be all original and was a factory 4 speed bench car. The car did not have an engine when I purchased it and I assumed it was a small block car even though it had front disk brakes. A few days ago I got around to removing the 12 bolt rear and noticed it had an unusual rear sway bar that I never saw before. It bolts to the bottom of the control arm rather then the sides. Has anyone ever seen one like this or is this an El Camino thing? The rear axle code is "CCW 0521B1" which decodes to a 3.31 12-bolt open (L34/402 LS3/402). It also had the F41 rear braces which I didn't expect either. It also has the rear shock protectors which I understand is pretty much standard for these cars. What do you guys think?
  24. Now that is what I call a MAJOR score !! Nice job. Mike
