  1. Hey Willie, There are a couple of things to consider with harnesses: - if the years are the same it is much easier to interchange harnesses - gauges vs idiot lights - AC cars vs non-AC harnesses If you have the 71 harness for a 71 car, half the battle is won. Good luck!! Mike
  2. What, no pics?? We want to see the finished product. Lol I just ordered my boot today along with some other goodies. Mike
  3. I believe the actual shafts are the same length just inserted at different lengths. Following that logic, the Chevelle one will bottom out sooner then the Monte. Mike
  4. Ok. I just wanted to finish off this discussion in case the info that I discovered can be used by someone else on the site. The length of the intermediate shafts (shaft only, no flange attached) is: Chevelle/El Camino: 17 3/8" inches (19 1/16" with flange attached) Monte Carlo: 20 7/8" inches If you want to change the overall length of the intermediate shaft, it can be accomplished as follows: - heat up the dimples in the shaft (they are plastic) - since this is a 2 piece shaft (one goes into the other) with some persuasion the length can be shortened or lengthened In my case, I was able to take a big block Monte intermediate shaft and shorten it so I can use it for my big block El Camino project. Hope that helps someone out in the future. Thanks!! Mike
  5. Dumb question, are the power steering hoses different on a small block vs a big block? Mike
  6. I looked at both a Monte and Chevelle shaft. The Chevelle one is about 2-3" shorter. I'm going to pull both of them apart and get the "exact" lengths of both. I also checked out the inside of the shaft and you can definitely just push or pull them to whatever length you want. The Chevelle one is just pushed in further then the Monte one, which makes sense to me. Thanks!! Mike
  7. Excellent! Thanks for letting me know. Mike
  8. Hey Dennis, Let me know where you get the replacement boot. Obviously I need one also. Thanks!! Mike
  9. I just read that you can take a Monte shaft and convert it into a Chevelle shaft by collapsing it to about 19 1/16" total length. Has anyone ever done this? The posting said that the (2) dimples in the shaft are filled with plastic to absorb play/vibration and once heated the shaft can be collapsed. Thanks!! Mike
  10. Hey Dennis, So I guess you are saying that I did you a favor, right? Haha. So the shaft that I have is for a Monte? And not a Chevelle/El Camino? Thanks!! Mike
  11. I think that I found a big block intermediate steering shaft but I'm not sure. Can someone verify that for me? Also, is it for a Monte of Chevelle/El Camino? Thanks!! Mike
  12. It sounds like there are two different cables being talked about above. One is the th350 detent cable and the other is the console cable. Does the car have a console? Am I mistaken? Mike
  13. The story was that the engine was rebuilt once before at .060 over as part of a full restoration and the project was stopped and stored for several years. Maybe they lost interest or the funds ran out. The engine sat and water got into the engine and the piston walls had pits in them. So when the engine was gone over again, the builder had to go to .070. I believe that the story is true. I'm just a little nervous that the engine may overheat sometime down the road. I read on some Chevelle forums that these engines can handle up to .090. I just thought I would get some other opinions here. Thanks!! Mike
  14. The engine is the numbers matching engine to the car that's why it was saved and rebuilt that way. It may be fine at .070 over. I just never heard of that. I'm not an engine expert. Thanks!! Mike
  15. I'm looking at a 1970 402 engine that has been bored .070 over. Should I be concerned? I remember hearing stories about over-boring the 400 engines and causing overheating. Thanks!! Mike
  16. I was going through my 70 engine compartment lighting harness today and noticed that the headlight plugs have the opening for the fiber optic connections. Since my car did not have the fiber optic option I was wondering if these were installed on all harnesses in 1970 whether they had that option or not. Just curious if this is something that someone could be looking for. Thanks!! Mike
  17. Ah, that's what I needed to know. I was prying on either end and it didn't want to come out. Now that I pry on the sides, I did "pop" out. Thank you so much for the pics and responses. Mike
  18. Hey Joe, "Snap fit" worries me. I don't want to have a "break fit". Where should I pry on it? On which end? Thanks!! Mike
  19. Thanks Tom. I will keep that in mind in case my nervous go bad on me. Boy, InlineTube sure makes a lot of stuff for our cars now. When did that all happen?
  20. I need to replace the bulb in my Map Light Mirror. I'm pretty sure the bulb number is 562, but am not sure. Can anyone confirm for me? Also, any tips/tricks/pictures on removing the lens to get to the bulb? I did it years ago but I don't remember how it comes apart and don't want to break it? Thanks!! Mike
  21. I've seen ground wires from the chevelle metal inner fenders to the frame on some cars. Grounds are really important on these older cars. Mike
  22. It looks like the one pictured has no vents and does have a return. Hope that help!! Mike
  23. I put 70 covers on a 70 rear seat and they fit perfectly. I would expect 70 thru 72 seats to be the same.
  24. Actually if I remember correctly, the frame bracket for the Chevelle/El Camino and Monte are different. Can someone else confirm? Mike
  25. When I converted my 72, the holes were already in the frame. No drilling was required. Good luck!! Mike
