  1. Here’s some decoding pages. Note that the last 6 digits of your VIN are not going to match anything on the body tag. https://www.firstgenmc.com/forums/index.php?/resources/decodingbodytag/ https://www.firstgenmc.com/forums/index.php?/resources/decodingengine/
  2. It was optional on all first gen Montes. Roughly 20% of the first gen Montes did not have AC. The AC option is less common the further North you go.
  3. I finally got a copy of it. A friend of mine dropped it off at my office today. 🙂

    My 76

I had a 76 Cutlass S. Those GM colonnade cars drove very nice. Mine had the upgraded suspension.

Welcome Zachary! Nice ride you found. 🙂
  6. I have been using Castrol GTX 10W40 and the larger capacity AC Delco filters for 27 years and 80,000 miles (132,000 miles total on the car). I just had the engine rebuilt over the winter. The cam was heavily worn but the rest of the engine looked really good. He said to simply keep doing what I'm doing but he does prefer the Napa Gold filters.
  7. Wow. Pretty late in March for that amount of snow. 50 and raining here today.
  8. We've done it before. A member locked his keys in the trunk shortly after arriving to the hotel for the Western Meet. We had to pull the back seat out and work at popping that trunk lid.
  9. I’m always impressed how much those dealers can get for classic cars. I guess they have a certain type of customer that is willing to pay good money for what they want. There’s nothing wrong with that. I also speculate that a majority of the people who buy from dealers maybe also prefer that experience over buying privately and will pay that premium price.
  10. Bring it to the Western Meet. We can pull the interior apart there. 😁
  11. Yes, they should match. The VIN plate and the body tag are not from the same car. Do you still have the blue sticker on the inside edge of the drivers door? That has the VIN and the month it was built on it. Have you found a build sheet in the car?
  12. I am a sucker for Sandalwood which both my Montes have. I grew up with white or black vinyl interiors but when I saw my 70 Monte the first time I really liked the Sandalwood. I always thought I wanted black but after owning my red 71 SS with black vinyl interior I didn’t like how hot it got in the sun. That’s one of the reasons I sold it to buy the 71 SS I have now. The Sandalwood is much cooler. I have also owned a couple 72 Montes with Covert interior which is similar to Sandalwood except it has dark brown carpet and dash. More like a 2-tone interior. As for colours like blue or green I think they look great when restored and looking new.
  13. That’s what its all about! Happy anniversary.
  14. From the factory the seats did not have the chrome on the lower part for a Monte. Just the upper part around the seat back. No end caps were used. I added the trim to the lower part on the 71 SS I used to have and it did the same thing yours is doing. It doesn’t want to bend around that corner and when it straightens out it pulls off. I eventually took it off and redid it. I tried to make sure the trim was installed straight down if that makes any sense. The first time I did it I think it was on a bit of an angle which made it easier for it to pup off. You could also try making a cut on the trim on the inside of that bend so it will make that bend easier. You won’t see the cut and it won’t have any force trying to pull off the front part of the seat.
  15. Some people don’t visit the site daily so it could be that he just hasn’t been back to the site yet. I’m happy to help whether someone responds or not. 🙂
  16. In the for sale section of our forums you can create a wanted post in there. I’ve found parts on here that way over the years.
  17. Here’s what the shape of the tank should be. From the factory some were plated in a gold type finish and some were black. Mine has been painted to appear like the plating.
  18. The tank isn’t correct for a Monte. The rest is probably fine though.
  19. I had mine shipped to me in Western Canada without issue. They look great. I had to open up a hole or two to get them to fit. Take your time putting them in and you will get great results.
  20. I’ve been married for over 20 years and I’m still learning… 🤣
  21. As Larry said, 1970 only and was cancelled part way through the production year. No 1971 Montes had this trim. My 1970 does.
