My '70 SS454 build

Thanks, guys. The red looks more orange than it really is with the lighting in the shop. The color is Cranberry Red. Yes, the SS cars came with the black rockers, too.

Rock, I'd like to take it to the big Father's Day Show at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds someday.

Finished the clearcoat on the shell and the fenders. The clear went on really nice. I'm very happy to have the painting and bodywork behind me, so I can start reassembly soon. The sanding and buffing has begun.

Nice work! She's gleaming in the posted pictures no doubt that baby is gorgeous in person. Love the progress the color looks fantastic. What's in store as a theme? Stock.. Pro-touring? That color is fat..And it would glow in any clothing.

Thanks, all. I buffed and polished a small area on the hood this morning. I want to get everything sanded before doing more buffing/polishing, so I can complete the hand sanding before the clear hardens more.

Thank you, sir. I've been working way too many hours at the powerplant, but I was able to finish a fender today. I installed the first piece of trim on the car today.

Thanks, Rob. So far today, I've finished the passenger side quarter panel, and I'll work on the driver door with the NASCAR race on in the garage. I finished the passenger door last night.

Overtime at work is going to limit my hours in the garage for the rest of the year.

Thanks, guys.

The weather is beautiful, and I found some time for the car today. I've put the doors and one fender on to sand and buff the tops of the doors, and to check for paint color match. They match great. I need to check the rest of the parts. One headlight surround piece is a little lighter on the top than the fender is. I didn't get quite enough coverage there, so I'll repaint it. I also installed some trim and inner door parts. Heading back out now.

I ordered a 4 pc kit to replace the door panels and rear panels from Legendary Auto Interiors Ltd. last November and after a 5 month wait, they arrived last Friday. I was off work and in the garage when they arrived, so I immediately inspected them and found no shipping damage. I did a quick trial fit and found that the lower, front corners of the door panels hit the plastic kick panel covers when I tried to shut the doors. Also, the door handle holes are smaller than the originals and the position of each is too far back. That keeps me from being able to slide the panels back, but the rear edge of the panels already line up pretty good with the edges of the doors. All of the holes for the arm rest screws are off, too. I compared the panels closely with my original panels and verified the issues I saw when the new ones were on the doors.

Another thing is there are no pre-punched holes for the door pull straps, and I was told when I ordered that there are perforated places on the back for the power door lock switches, and power window switches. There are not, and they came with a round hole for the power window switches, instead of square, which is to be expected. 3 of them are not hard to fix, but the driver's panel needs a rectangular hole for the master PW switch, and there are no perforations there.

I checked the rear panels and one has a wrinkle that's ugly, and both have a place where the glue has already let loose.

I haven't altered any of the panels at all.

Until tonight, I thought I might be able to make some "adjustments" to the passenger door panel factory made holes and not have to send it back, since the arm rest base will cover that area, but the other 3 pcs will have to be returned.

Tonight I found that the passenger door panel is separating in 3 places. It's where the vertical seams are in the middle area of the panel. I believe they are done with a press and heat. All 4 panels are going to have to be returned.

I've had zero luck with calling them, leaving a message, and actually having someone there make a return phone call. I tried it again last Friday with intentions of reporting the problems and getting an email address, so I could send a concerned employee photos of the issues that need resolved. After no answer, I realized they were probably off for Good Friday. I left a message about the problems and requested a call from them. For the 4th time since the order was placed, they've failed to make a return call.

Their policy on returns was included on the box. It reads that I have to contact them and get prior permission to make a return, and I have to pay for return shipping. Wow.

I have a set of original panels in black that are looking better everyday.

My PUI door panels I got last fall look pretty decent. I have not done the final fitting yet but will be doing that soon. The thin horizontal trim is not correct but I can always pull it off and install my original trim. I had the same issues regarding the perforations. I had to do a lot of measuring for the power window switch holes and remote mirror hole. I also found out the hard way that there are TWO different pairs of perforations for the pull strap. Luckily I only made a tiny cut in one panel before discovering I was cutting the wrong hole location.

I was hoping to get panels that look original. The PUI panels I've seen have a chrome strip in a rectangular shape, unlike the original panels with the 2 stainless strips.

I called them yesterday and I told a guy about the issues. He gave me his email address and I sent him some photos and also explained the problems. I called him back today and he gave me a return authorization number. He's going to have FedEx pick them up Monday. I told him I could send him my originals if they needed them for a pattern. He said he'll have FedEx pick them up too, and they'll be returned. He said he was sorry for the problems and that they just recently started offering these. It seems they are willing to make it right, and not charge me again for shipping.

Legendary had FedEx pick up the door panels a few weeks ago, and I also sent my originals for them to use as a pattern. They now have the locations needed for the power window and power switch locations, but I don't think they're going to punch those out for me.

The trunk lid slipped on my panel stand while I was color sanding it and I chipped the paint in 2 places on the back edge. I used an air brush to spray the primer and sealer and then a touch up gun for the red on it and the headlight surround yesterday. Shot 3 coats of clear on them and now ready to try again with the sanding/buffing. This pic shows the reflection of the clouds, before sanding.

The buffing on the clear is going well and my door panels arrived again today. I'll be checking the fit this weekend.

I put 2 coats of POR-15 on the rear end this evening. It'll be semi-flat black when dry.

Thanks Aaron.

I bolted the torque converter and the transmission to the motor this evening and bolted them to the frame.

Glad to see that the ARH headers clear the factory located brake proportioning valve.

Dan, will there be a problem with the radiant heat to the proportioning valve?

Thank you, Rob.

Mike, I hope not, but I guess I'll be finding out.

I installed the rear end today, along with a few other parts. Now I can finish fitting and welding the tailpipes.

Recent progress. TIG welded the tailpipes and tips, installed them. Repainted the new air shocks gray, like the factory ones were, and installed them. Installed the gas tank, finished sanding and buffing the driver side quarter panel and installed trim on it. The door panels came in again from Legendary and I did a trial fit with them. Minor mods were needed to fit the passenger side door panel, but the driver side was fine.
