Got the back seat recovered to match the fronts and a new package tray. I know they are a little off color-wise but depending on the color the car gets painted will determine the final interior color.

Honestly I like when large stand alone parts are obviously a few shades off rather than a failed attempt at trying to color match ... I think it looks nice like that.

It doesn't look all that bad, I wouldn't have redone either but the back seat cover was essentially turning to dust and the package tray was warped, peeling and just flat nasty. The rest of the upholstery is in ok shape. Like I said, it will all get redone after it gets painted. I really don't like the interior color, not a fan of earth tones. If I keep the paint orange I'll go black or charcoal and if I paint it blue like I really want I'll go red.

  • 4 weeks later...

Had mine out today to run a couple errands and just to burn up some gas so the tank is a little lighter for when I drop it out to hopefully finally get gas Guage working properly, it'll be the 3rd or 4th attempt over the years but I think I finally got it figured out with a little help and advice from other members. May have it out one more time I'll grab pictures then 😊

This so far has been the quickest and cheapest part of the car.

I got myself into a situation where I need to move the Monte over and clear some space.  So I cleaned up the frame just where the rearend goes, bolted on my new control arms that were supposed to be not-red but I’m ok with it, added a sway bar (because you guys told me to) and some new non saggy springs.   Not done but I think it looks good for a weekend driver. 9FFE12C3-509A-438E-8ADC-74DDEA75474F.thumb.jpeg.edb791eb2a1dae541555e6d250d9c4c1.jpeg

It looks great 👍

You did a fantastic job with that and it's something that will draw the attention of those who are following you !!

You will definitely notice a big handling difference with the sway bar as well as upgrading the springs and boxed control arms .

installed 275/60/15 on 15x8 ralley with 5”bs, got to remove them they are rubbing on the inside, one step forward…

5.5 inch Back space is pretty much what it takes to prevent the rubbing issues .

With the shock protector plate, most likely would be for an SS454 .. If not, it definitely had air ride.  I am sure the rear end will match the car.

The 12 bolt came from a '72 El Camino. The original plates were in rough shape.

Are thise home made shock protectors or did you buy them after-market someplace.

They're home made.... The originals were damaged, so I copied the pattern onto a piece of 3/16" plate steel.20210722_173051.thumb.jpg.384f06c530abc73d0339dade894797e3.jpg

Switching from the 10 bolt to the 12 bolt widened the control arms enough to rub the exhaust.... Had to re adjust a few hangers to get rid of the rattling noise. Otherwise, it went in perfectly. Even used the same U-joint. :)

Sweet !!

I personally love seeing the 12 bolt in the First Gen !

I love Monte's period, especially Blue 70's

Went to flush the old brake fluid, it looked like tea! Started the process and was seeing rust particles coming through!

New master cylinder and 2 quarts of brake fluid resulted in a clean, good working brake system!

I use a Mity-Vac for the initial bleed. An inline check valve attached to the bleeder hose from my motorcycling past allows me to pedal bleed without a 2nd person. Pro tip: a small bit of grease on the bleeder threads keeps air from sucking back.

Check valve similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/Motion-Pro-08-0143-Hydraulic-Bleeder/dp/B000MXW2EM/ref=asc_df_B000MXW2EM/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312844081654&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15252157036502052133&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9012392&hvtargid=pla-572002473796&psc=1
