Stuckin70s Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 The stock fuse block has many vacant connectors. On the male side (under the hood) I have found it easy to remove the pins from the donor harness. Those slots will be use for add ons like power windows, dash cam, cruise, delay wiper and the like. As mentioned trying to avoid a mass of wires going through the firewall. Does anyone know what the dielectric goo is that GM installed these with? Brake fluid will soften it but it is still sticky and has to be picked out. Once the goo is out, push on the skinny side of pin and it removes easily. teh p Quote

On the Cuda he is building his bleeders will not seal and when tightened to stop the leaking they have rounded off and vice grips had to be used to get them out. Bought replacements and the same scenario I would replace them with Speed Bleeders, they will not leak and are very reliable long-term. 1 Quote
Scott S. Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 Hey Brad, It's dielectric grease.... Can be found just about anywhere electrical supplies are sold. Comes in a convienient tube as well as buckets. 1 Quote
Stuckin70s Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 Thank you Scott, I have a jug of the green stuff I use on aluminum household wiring, that should work. Scott S. Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 Aluminum wiring ??? Now that's "old school" lol It should..... I don't believe there's any corrosive agents in it. Quote
RON T Posted July 12, 2024 Posted July 12, 2024 Got a tip from one of the experts that was in Carlisle, and they really are experts , I don’t say that lightly. Thanks Arron. There’s a bunch of them in this club. They know more about the 1st generation Monte than Chevy did back in the day.. Anyway, my ac wasn’t working properly, he told me my heater core shutoff valve was missing.. so I got one, had a tough time putting it on but finally was successful.. AC works much better… I have pictures, but won’t load anything 4mb or higher at this time.. another item was noticed by dtret, getting started on that little project next.. 10 Quote

Stuckin70s Posted July 12, 2024 Posted July 12, 2024 So much nicer than 1/2" quarter turn plumbing fitting. Where are you going to "T" the vacuum in? 1 Quote

RON T Posted July 13, 2024 Posted July 13, 2024 Actually there were a couple of things. One was the pcv valve is incorrect, vacuum hose should come out the top, not the side of the pcv . Minor little thing. The other I really don’t want to say but it’s something on my 71 that shouldn’t be there. It was put on the car by a guy back in the 90s that began restoring the car.. he is now deceased so I can’t ask him why it was put on this car. Well, I could ask , but he probably won’t answer. Anyway, the correct part is ordered. I had no idea until the Carlisle meet , that the part I’m talking about was incorrect.. I finished doing the restoration on this 71 but learn things I should have done . I’m just glad they went over my 71.. 2 Quote

Sids Monte Posted July 18, 2024 Posted July 18, 2024 Updatre on Re-wiring Project. The car is back running and fires right up. I now have some Dakota digital issues I need to figure out. I have yet to take any voltage readings at my starter now that I've got a 2ga. and 1/0 ga. coming from the battery but the car fires up immediately and what seems much quicker than it did previously and I don't notice any lag from the starter. A relay for the ingnition wire was also instralled. The fan module is sweet. I'm thinking I had a fan issue on/off for some time. I did find one of my fan wires that looked compromised during disassembly. The fan1 starts at setpoint, fan starts 10 sec. later., once the temp drop 5deg below setpoint, the fans go off. I have to believe if it worked this way at Carlisle, I would have been fine. One cool thing I installed are Maven bulkhead connectors. They have a button to release them. Now, I can remove and get the the wiring behind my battery box by disconnecting three connections. Unfortunately my TPS (throttle position sensor is still flaking out. Thats a total bummer but I'm going to reach back out to Edelbrock. My ECM is totally free and I ran a new ignition wire directly an open spot on by fuse block. Overall it has been worth the effort since I really cleaned things up and addressed some actually issue I found. Unfortunately, the car will be in the garage while I go to the Syracuse National. I'll be out one of the two days. Game time decision as to which but I know where everyone will be. Enjoy! New ECM location pending fix to TPS sensor issue. To make bracket to support. Dakota digital module. Location. Held with Velcro. Mave Bulkhead connectors. Not cheap but you get what you pay for. Used $0 amazon hydraulic crimping tool. Maven connectors comming from my secret switch starter solenoid to disconnect positiove from starter. Final product. I relocated my fuel pump relay so its accessible. It was behind the back seat armrest. The Carnaige. I should have kept all the wire ties I removed. 10 Quote
Canuck Posted July 28, 2024 Author Posted July 28, 2024 I’ve been working on small details lately on the 71SS. Today worked on the taillight bezels. Stripped the old red paint of the taillight bezels and repainted them. I scuffed up the horizontal bars so hopefully it lasts longer this time. It has been 8 years since I did it last but I could see it was starting to chip off the chrome. I had some Testors model paint that was the right colour. Ideally spraying would leave a better finish but since I already had this paint I brushed it on. Within the last week or so I also pulled the AM 8-track to get repaired, painted my rear speaker grilles to match the interior, fixed the heater fan and got the courtesy lights working. I have some new decals as well as other small parts on order too. If I keep this up I won’t want to sell the car. 😆 11 Quote
Canuck Posted July 28, 2024 Author Posted July 28, 2024 …and the 8-track player has been going all day in the garage. Good times! 8 Quote

RH 70 72 Posted July 28, 2024 Posted July 28, 2024 Got both the cars ready on Friday for a Local Show on Saturday in honor of Mathew Loftus, who lost his life in a horrible car accident at 17 years old. Mat helped five people live happier healthier lives by donating his heart, pancreas, kidneys, liver and lungs. The Car Show benefits the Gift of Life Donor Program and Foundation and the show yesterday raised $10,000 The 70 took a Top 30 out of 100 cars and some very beautiful competition. \ 14 Quote
