Today I put in new front and both rear sections of parking brake cables. Just have to connect all 3 with the long cable underneath. Found one rear wheel cylinder just starting to leek.

Looks great. I’m leaving my Carlisle dirt. I don’t want to break tradition.

I had the noisy ring and pinion replaced yesterday.  It was bad enough that I thought some of the noise must be coming from the transmission.   As it turns out, it was all in the rear end fortunately.     Replaced the 3.73's with 3.31's as well

That's fantastic!

Question - How do you like the 3.31's? would you go even higher, say 3.08 or are the 3.31's the perfect combo?

I'm curious because I am looking either to replace my 2.73 gears with 3.08 or 3.31 and an Eaton posi unit.

Thanks,Matt

I will know better when I take it on the highway,  I've only driven it around the block so far.  I have a 2004r and the higher gears have improved the shift points which was a problem, (shifting too quickly), before the 3.31's.

Also, credit to the Joe T technical hotline for his advise on fixing this.

Seems the 3.31 gear is the way to go by many members. Bloo 402 is fitted with that one.

I do have a TH350 transmission though -

I like the 3.31 (wish there was a 3.2x gear, 12 bolt) just not sold yet on the RPM's on the highway yet, that's why I was contemplating the 3.08

Do most have the 3.31 coupled a TH350 or TH400 transmission or 700R4 or 2004R?

Thanks, Matt

bloos is coupled to 402 and turbo 400, my sin city is SS 454 and turbo 400, It runs a 3.73, both 12 bolt posi. both 70's                   32,ooo miles                                                      64,ooo miles                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                no issues with either.

I had a 700R4 in a 70. I did not like it. even with the TV cable adjusted properly it had to be up to 40 mph before it would shift into 2nd gear. If you really want to put one in make sure it's an 1983 or newer. the first 2 years it had a smaller output shaft. Me I would never use one again.

Thank you for the information, I appreciate it.

I'm not considering a 700R4 or a 2004R, just trying to pair the best 3 series gear to my TH350 and keep it somewhat freeway and highway friendly.

That's why I am in-between either 3.08 or 3.31 gears over my 2.73 (currently I am leaning towards 3.08 gears and a Eaton Posi)

Thanks, Matt

im just close Dennis   TH350 / 331's   about 28 2900 at 70 mph   would like to be down a bit on the highway but most of my driving is local so it is a good all around gear as long as the majority of driving isnt highway

If I ever get my 70 done ( don’t count on it) I’ll compare the two.
454, th400 and 2:56.

From the looks of it, that tire is right around 27.4" tall to go with your 3.31 gears -

Good information - thank you

Thanks,Matt
