5,3 swap Oil pan?

Recommended Posts

Hello , its been a few years since ive been on here,   I am putting a 2004 5.3 and trans out of a truck into my 1970 Monte Carlo.    but I need a different oil pan, and with the motor/frame placement being different on the monte vs every other car .   I want to make sure I get the correct oil pan.

this is the oil pan i am looking at.    says Ls and LSX   but should fit a truck engine too?    does it fit a monte carlo?????

Hi. Yes that looks to be the pan needed. As you know, the trucks oil pan has a deep sump. When installing into a car the sump is way lower than the crossmember. That's why the need to change the pan to a shallower sump.

As far as fitting the Monte chassis, we do not have the same fitment issues as other makes and models due to the engines in our Montes sitting further back over the front crossmember.

In my opinion the muscle car pan sits too low.  The F-body pan (#12628771) sits flush with the front crossmember and has plenty of room between the crossmember and sump in contrast to the Chevelle.  Here's my Monte with the F-body oil pan and standard swap plates using the stock style motor mounts, the muscle car oil pan would sit two inches lower than this.

I have used the Holley 302-2 pan on a couple swaps with good luck. Not in First Gen Montes, but in a 84 Monte and a 92 Camaro. What mounts are you running?
