Tim chiles Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 1970 350/4bl factory air would like to replace my original r-12 condenser with a larger one designed for r-134a. are there any out there that can be installed without modification? also i have retrofitted with r-134a keeping oem parts. can i use the sight glass charging method with 134?
hamster Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 Tim, Not sure about the condensor, but you can use the sight glass method to make sure there are no air bubbles in the system when charging. Make sure you replace the receiver/dryer if converting over and the system should be evacuated properly before recharging. Don
busmechanic Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 You can use the same condensor and using the sight glass method may overcharge the system when converting over to R-134a. Determine the correct charge for the system being upgraded to R134a use. In most cases, the R134a charge will be 10% less than the R12 charge.
Monteman1971 Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 I was told by "Classic Air" that 3lbs of R134 should be used when recharging the system. Steve
