Hello All,

I am trying to restore my genuine 71SS454 to original spec and need help finding any information about its original emission system. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you for your time!

When restoring to original your best bet is to purchase a service manual. The 71 SS didn’t come with much emission stuff. There’s no smog pump or smog system to worry about. The only thing I can think of is the charcoal canister located on the drivers side just behind the headlight.

I believe it would have had a TCS (Transmission Controlled Spark) where the vacuum advance would only be activated when the trans shifted into high (3rd) gear (or Reverse for testing and adjusting the idle stop solenoid) as well as the fuel tank evaporate emissions charcoal canister on the ft drivers side. Get a shop manual like Larry said.

I would love to see a picture of that!

Funny all the things previous owners can do to a vehicle almost 50 years old!
