201fireman
I am putting a built 489 into my 72 with a TCI TH400 trans. Internal or external balance flexplate? I am a bit confused on the whole balancing thing. Thanks.
Paul Bell
Assuming the engine started life as a 454, it's externally balanced. The damper should have a weight in it.
201fireman
Ok, and the flexplate should also have the weight and be for an externally balanced engine correct?
MC1of80
You may want to find out from the engine builder. My 496 is internally balanced. If it's a 454 crank, then yes an external balanced flexplate and balancer. I have an eagle rotating assy in mine and again, it's internally balanced. Yessir Todd, if the balancer has the weight, the flexplate should also have a weight.
