My goal was to keep the car appearing stock but with modern stereo tech.

I mounted the deck on top of the glove box angled down. This unit does not have a CD player so no need to have access for that. The location is not ideal if you want easy access to the face daily but for me it works fine. I drive this car to work and back quite often and I’m happy with the setup. I typically only need to do the settings on the face (Bass, treble, etc) once and the remote handles the rest. I can’t see the readout on the face but I’m ok with that. I can receive calls with my remote but have to pull over if I wanted to start a call. Next time I’d get a unit that has voice activation to make a call, etc. I paid $80 for this unit and another $20 or so for the remote so very economical.

I have a pair of 4 inch Alpine speakers up front and a pair of Sony 6x9 speakers in the rear. I used the stock speaker grills since I want the car to appear stock.

I ran the bluetooth mic up the A pillar and poked it out the top. It works well there for phone conversations even on the highway with the windows down. Since I can’t see the Alpine unit I needed to run an infrared extender so that the signal from the remote can work the stereo. I put the tiny IR receiver in the floor vent so it is concealed and works well. The other end of the extender is attached to the stereo.

Overall it is not super expensive but sounds decent. I wired everything independent of the factory wiring so the original wiring harness is intact if I ever wanted to go back to the original AM radio.

When I get some time I'll update with photos of the rear shelf but I bought a stereo from Classic Stereos. Looks better than the cheapo aftermarket stuff but its not exactly original. I pulled the interior apart and ran a new harness through the passenger side wire channel area in the floor. I needed to replace my original rear shelf panel so I did that when i mounted some 4 ohm pioneer 6x9s from OPGI. The mount kit thet sent with it didnt really fit so i had to modify them. I bought a front speaker setup from Classic stereo and found a mono radio single front speaker bracket off a chevelle on ebay for 55 bucks. Then used the speaker mount from classic and made it fit. So what I have now is the classic 200 watt stereo, AM/FM with a rear AUX port, 2 6x9s in the back, 2 3 inch tweeters grafted into the front single speaker mount, and I built a harness for it all with deutsche connectors and a removable harness that didnt require cutting up the factory dash harness. The sound is good. If youre a real big sound system buff it would probably be a little weak but I prefer the pipes x pipe with my flowmasters over the radio, I just wanted some background noise. 20200521_184918.thumb.jpg.bf9b99bb2fa99524b1812fa6604f86c4.jpg

Hello. Im Rick, 25, auto mechanic as a profession. I bought a 1970 monte carlo about 3 and a half years ago, been slowly working on modifying/rebuilding the car.

When i bought my monte it was non running, purchased from a local private owner. Since purchasing it ive rebuilt the engine, been through the front and rear suspension and the steering. Added headers and a pypes exhaust system. Hope to learn alot from everyone here!
