Traveler
as part on my rebuild on my 71 I put a 383 stroker motor in with a wild cam. manifold vacuum runs 5-6” at ideal, which lead to a hard brake pedal. i put a vacuum canister in and that definitely helped, once i drive it a little, but at start up i still get a hard pedal. a mechanic told me that early camaro’s had a 9/16” booster check valve, that installing it and running a new 9/16” hose from the manifold would help, but after several phone calls to dorman, jegs, summit, napa... no one can source the part, would anyone know a part number or other fix. thanks john
MC1of80
You can try that but it will still be the same. I installed a vacuum pump on my 70 SS and have never looked back. No more brake issues. Or you can get a hydroboost system. I went pump. Cheaper and kept the stock look of the engine compartment. I installed the pump under the front fender behind the washer bottle. Out of sight and so are the lines.
imr
I agree with Tom. The pump is the way to go. you can also go with a smaller booster if your not looking for that stock look. i dont think a 9/16 hose will add much difference.

bob 71
best price I found for a pump was jegs and is a little quieter than the last one. I use the vac pump and canister stops on a dime awesome pedal
Traveler
Thanks Bob, is it the one sold by Jets that looks like a diaphragm pump and comes as a kit with hose, mounts, switch, wiring...
