Cooltech
Hi everyone, just wondering if there would be a place that one could get a vinyl top that comes down to the drip edge and up to the windshield? Plans to paint the car with Hugger Orange and wanted to break it up with a vinyl top but was not to keen on the Monte style. Thanks!! Dtret
When you buy a top to put on it,it goes windshield to below back glass. There should be enough left to go to the drip moldings but then you will have to cut all the trim pins off the roof. What are your plans on the back end of the car below the back glass and the sale panels. There is chrome there also
Cooltech
The car originally didnt have a vinyl top so that the trim pins are not an issue but the below the back glass I would have to get the trim and also the trims pieces for the sale panels. Thanks for your reply!!
Canuck
As mentioned, the vinyl that is available is large enough to go to the drip rails.
Dtret
If you do the back glass vinyl you will have to add pins to hold the trim down and also the chrome going along side on sale panel will end about two inches short of mating up with the drip molding. Cooltech
Ok, thanks for the info. I would have never thought of those trims being short on the panels. Thank you guys!!
overdrive
As was noted above, the factory trim won't work for a vinyl top reaching the drip rails. Aftermarket tops were installed like you are describing, but I doubt the trim needed to install the top that way exists. Dan
714024SPEED
On our 71 it had a Chevelle style top went to drop molding and down a pillar when we bought it this may be what you are looking for
Dtret
Ya know. That don’t look to bad🤔
Canuck
There’s likely some aftermarket trim still available somewhere. I think back then they used some universal trim that could be bent to the required shape. Maybe a local upholstery place can answer that question. The other option is to use the factory trim that goes around the back window and along the sail panels then cut a piece of trim to fill the gap to meet up with the drip rail. That could work.
Dtret
That the piece that goes along the roof, cut off two inches and slide it over and it should sit under the drip rail and not be really noticed — cut the front section by the windshield
Dtret
Here’s another way to do the trim. Use the left up the sale piece on the right side and the right side on the left side and a little massaging. Wa la
