Doug Mitchell
i have a big block 402 engine, what should the oil pressure be at idle once the engine is warmed up to temperature? at start up before the engine is warmed up i usually have 50-60 lbs. of pressure. snomobeelr
As long as oil pressure is 10 or above at idle oil pressure is good. I have a 454 and used to run 20-50 valvoline vr-1 all the time. Thats how it used to be old school thought and that is what my engine builder said to use. I have a roller cam and roller lifters I bought through Chris Straub - https://straubtechnologies.com and they says 10-30 to 10-40 driven racing oil. Some say it all depends on bearing clearances tight or loose. But now i run the 10-30 driven oil. I have 20 15 to 20 lbs at idle and goes up from there when driving. Im definitely no expert hopefully someone else will chime in.
