overdrive Posted September 6, 2020 Share Posted September 6, 2020 Welcome to the site! As Willie noted, the partial VIN was not always on the pad by the head. It can be next to the oil filter. Dans '70 Z20 Posted September 25, 2020 Share Posted September 25, 2020 Supposedly since so few SS Montes were made there not 454's on the Monte assembly line. So very often the motor was added later in assembly and the vin# added at that time to the vertical machined surface by the oil filter.
