Canuck
1970 fenders are one year only. 1971 and 1972 fenders can interchange though.

Dtret
You can make anything fit fit with the proper amount of persuasion. It all depends if you want it to be correct for the car. The good thing is that it is your car and you can do whatever you want.

Yes, you could make that work. There's an alignment pin at the front edge of the fender for the fender extension but that can easily be modified to work. Putting 1970 fenders on a 71/71 however requires more extensive modifications to make it fit correctly.
MC1of80
No shims needed if putting a 71-72 fender on a 70. Bolt holes for the tie bar are in the same location. You could also use the tie bar for the fenders installed IF changing in pairs. ie- 70 fenders onto a 71-72 OR 71-72 fenders onto a 70. Removal by cutting or tapping into the fender of one of the locating pins/dowel for the headlight bezel is necessary OR drilling a new hole for the dowel in the headlight bezel.
Jared Richey
I would definitely use the 71-72 fenders has 70 fenders are harder to come by If your fenders are junk you could take the front section out and put them into the 72 fender if you wanted everything to look correct
