When you replace the speedometer cable with the new one should you pull the cable out and lightly lubricate it or leave it as it is? I was going to lightly lubricate it with white lithium grease. It is been about 40 years since I replaced one let me know what you guys do with them.

This little tool makes the job much easier.  https://www.mamotorworks.com/corvette/product/corvette-1953-1982-speedometer-tachometer-cable-lubricator-609467

Too much grease is a bad thing too. The gentleman he's speaking of in the below post is from Redline Gauge & Clock repair.

GM recommends AC Delco Speedometer Lube, ST 700, though it can't be found anywhere.

Popular opinions are to use a light coat of white lithium or a liquid graphite type lube.

Another recommended lube is Kable-Ease:

SDS sheet for Kable-Ease, basically graphite and mineral oil:

Thanks for the info Joe. After reviewing the links, I decided to cancel  the order for the tool. After all mine makes no noise and works fine.

Looks like a nice tool but I do know to much grease is not good for that cable and the wrong grease can also cause problems mostly in cold weather. Guess I'll stick with the old fashion way (if needed) it always worked for me.
