National Meet???

Recommended Posts

So, I know we have our Eastern and Western Meets every year and they are great,  up I’ve asked a few people about their intrest level in possibly having a National Meet at Cruisiin the Coast in the next year or two and many, Jared H. Richey included, have liked the idea. For anyone not familiar with it, it’s literally an 8 day cruise in/car show/poker run/concert filled/automotive extravaganza that really lasts about 10 days. Every town along the Mississippi Gulf Coast has something going on just about every night at various casinos, restaurants, parking lots, beaches, bars and cruising the beach with thousands of people lined up along the highway begging for burnouts is always the best. The average is usually between 10-15k hot rods in a 40 mile stretch of the coast for a week… Burnout contests, vehicle flame throwing contests, celebrities signing autographs everyday and some of the best seafood restaurants you will find always makes for a good time…

People from other countries ship their cars in to participate in this event and drive from as far as Alaska each year. My partner Arsell Weary Jr. and his crew come every year from Detroit and can attest to how much fun this event is!

Who would be down with having a Mega Meet here in the next couple of years or so?

I’ll post a few videos to give those that are not familiar with CTC a glimpse of some of the festivities.

Feedback appreciated 😎

That event looks awesome!

I'd categorize this location as a potential Eastern Meet as opposed to a National meet. We know the 2022 Eastern Meet is set but perhaps Cruisin' The Coast could be a 2023 candidate.

As a caution, in my experience a bigger event to attend as an FGMCC official meet isn't always better. Hot August Nights in Nevada was a prime example. Myself and a member who lives in Reno tried to make it work for a Western Meet but the logistics just didn't work for a large group (affordable hotel, parking together, awards banquet, etc.). The Cruisin' The Coast event may be easier to deal with than HAN but these issues need to be looked into.

What I would do in that situation is set up an unofficial gathering there just like other members have done in other locations around the country. This will give you an idea of how many members would attend, allow you to narrow down an ideal affordable hotel, and sort out other logistics to determine if it is a viable location for an Eastern Meet. This is what I did with Penticton, BC years ago and it turned into a Western Meet eventually.
