Rob Peters
Congrats Carl, I know you are anxious to see it arrive at its new home. Did you add the fiber optic light monitor system or was it a previous owner added item? rob

stangeba
"That is the rear fiber optic indicators for the rear lights and license plate lamp." Wait, What? Tell me this is some aftermarket thing not available in first gen Monte's or I'm heading to the ER!!!!!!!!

Bruce, Grant is correct, it is the vigilite fiber optic light monitor system option. That option was only available in the 1970 Monte. It had been available on other Chevrolet models such as the Impala, Chevelle, Caprice and maybe other's. It is a fairly rare option. After the 1970 year it was no longer an available option. It is factory installed on my Monte and is fully functional. rob

MC-71
Replying to the fiber optics. I know a 71 Monte never had them.Only 1970 had that system. But I’m different. I thought that system was way before it’s time. Cool option. All parts are oem except the lenses in the front fender vigilites.

willie
I think they are cool!!!! I can remember seeing them on other makes of cars and thought that was cool back then also.
stangeba
I thought I knew all about Monte's but looks like you can learn always something. I remember the things on the top of the front fenders in 1970, but didn't know about the rear light things. No ER visit required........
