Hey Michael, how do you get your video's off the phone and post them here ? Couldn't find any directions on internet search. I had hoped to use it tonight at T&T but got rained out 😠

Untick the performance indicators which you don’t find useful.  Starting the video within a few feet of staging reduces the unwanted data, naturally, without having to untick boxes. The Blue arrows indicate that mph will also be shown in the export.

It’s as easy as creating a Google  email account. Easier if you already have Gmail.

A collection of my passes over the two day FAST event. Looks like there should’ve been an 11.6X hiding in there, if I could’ve found it. 

Taller tire next time out, it should keep the rpm down and let it eat out the back door.

The bad starter caused an idle issue, so I dug into that over the weekend. Swapped out the front power valve and reset the four-corner, idle mixture screws. Interesting, adjusting the rear screws out 1/2-turn achieved the highest vacuum (about 15” at 840 rpm). Fronts ended up at about 1-turn. Although both rear idle mixture screws certainly affected the idle negatively when screwed in, I’m contemplating swapping out the rear power valve as well for this reason.

Put the car in the local Memorial Day parade after swapping the carb work…the engine is so docile.

Getting ready for Midwest Drags…they don’t allow hard tires so I swapped to taller 275/60-15 tires (ET Streets). While I know it’s not needed, it’s tempting to try a set of 295/55-15 ET Street on these 5.0” BS, 15x8 wheels, since I can easily get my pudgy fingers between the chrome trim and the tires.

Also fixed the hard starting problem with a new starter. I specified an AutoZone lightweight, gear-reduction starter DLG9990S from a ‘97 Suburban with a 454. This starter spins over the 510 CI engine with 35° locked timing like that’s what it was designed to do. The starter even comes with correct 3/18”-16 starter bolts.

That is good to know for my BBC swap later this year. Glad to see some progress on the build. If you happen to run into Larry Kirkum, ( '69 Corvette),let him know that I'm following you on your journey. I'm running those Nitto drag radials  on my '72 with a 3:42 ratio .I don't think that the 295/15 will fit with the rims. Larry is a heck of a nice guy, he'll give you the shirt off his back.

Hopefully see him this fall, but if not, maybe in the spring.

Made it back to the track for the last time this year (most likely). Ran the Cooper Cobras, and while the track prep in eliminations was on point, and the air was stellar, unfortunately, the car is still down on power.

Best pass was an 11.79 @ 118.41 mph. Made it three rounds in eliminations. Will add a couple photos later.

James, It will fit with a 10 inch rally rim with with a 5.5 inch backspacing, as long as your exhaust tailpipes are in the factory location.

For what it is worth, a friend just installed 275/60-15 BFGs on his '71 using the 15x10, 5.5 BS Wheel Vintiques rally wheels (P/N 30-5034052) and even though he was already trimmed from running 15x8, 4.0" BS Corvette rally wheels with 245/60/15, he had to trim more, and quite a bit more. Now, take what he had to trim for the 275 and add at least 3/8" more (295-275 = 20 mm total, or 10 mm per side, which is about 3/8" per side) to fit a 295/55-15 tire.

 

275/60-15 on a 10" wheel looks amazing though.

From this photo, it certainly appears to me that your outer wheel molding has been trimmed or is at least shaped much different than my ‘70 molding  - your molding is much narrower above the wheel opening. Measure the width of your stainless trim around the opening, that should give a good idea. While I didn’t measure my friend’s molding width, it can’t be but about 5/8”-3/4” wide most of the way above the wheel opening. I typed this yesterday, and I think it helps to explain conflicting information.
 

The challenge with people's "largest tire recommendations" is that when they say "no trimming required," it's quite likely that in the car's 50+years lifetime, the wheel wells have been previously modified (either trimmed or rolled) and it’s not readily apparent so the more correct statement would be, "275/60-15 tires fit without "further" modification." This certainly appears to be the case with 15x8, 4.5" BS and 15x10, 5.5" wheel recommendations. 

I speak from personal experience, as my car is 100% original and I bought the 15x8, 4.5" BS hoping to run 275/60-15 tires - the tires rubbed the outer trim. I then bought the 15x8, 5.0" BS and reused the same 275/60-15 tires and they never rub, even with my beefy family riding along and 200 lbs of gear in the trunk. 

I've also inspected another First-Gen with 15x8, 5.5" BS with 275/60-15 and there was no sign of rubbing on the inside at all...but you do need to be mindful of the tailpipe clearance. So, in regards to fitting a 275/60-15 without trimming, there are two sure options - 15x8, in either 5.0" or 5.5" BS - no trimming required for either backspace.

15x8, 4.5" BS will need trimmed with a 275/60-15. 15x10, 5.5 BS will need trimmed more than the 15x8 with a 275/60-15, especially, if you want to stuff your car with a load of passengers and drive it everywhere. It's a shame these fitments require modification, they're hands-down the best looking fitment.

This is my friend’s car with 15x10, 5.5" BS and 275/60-15 tires, which required significant trimming/rolling. Take a look, it's hard to argue that the juice isn't worth the squeeze!

Also keep in mind, the Tire and Rim Association (TRA) provide tire manufacturers guidelines for an accepted measured range within a defined  tire size, so there's certainly a capacity for variation within manufacturers, and even within the same manufacturer. As well, the stated tire section width increases as the wheel width increases...so knowing the section width is more valuable when also knowing the wheel width used to generate the stated section width. A 15x10 wheel makes the 275/60-15 section width larger than the 8" wheel, and that's what makes it look so much better on the car.
