overdrive
A partial VIN is stamped on the driver side. Dan

I don't understand the 415 on your tag. Dan Yeah, for sure. The “415” throws the whole “Julian Date” thing out the window. Real head-scratcher here. Way nice compared to others I’ve seen. Mine was obviously a Monday or Friday job 😂. Obviously struck at an angle. Obviously by a linesman who had a liquid lunch. At least it’s visible enough to confirm it’s original to the car. I won’t complain…

Dan The 415 is the day it was built starting with Jan 1, 1969. 415 would be Feb 19th, 1970.
sbarnette
Mine doesn’t appear to have the VIN stamped on the transmission. Of course I’m laying on the garage floor with a flashlight, so maybe I’m just missing it. I’ll look again the next time I get the car on a lift. Canuck
So I have some good info to make a TH400 decode page but not for the TH350. I did a few searches online and really only came up with the VIN stamping for the TH350 but no info for a transmission code (type of trans, when it was built, etc). The protect-o-plate has the transmission codes though. I may just create a TH400 decode page for now and see if I can get more info for other transmissions at a later date. Here’s mine from my 71 SS. Looks like I have some cleaning to do.
Canuck
Here's what I have so far: https://www.firstgenmc.com/forums/index.php?/resources/decodingth400/ I'd like to see a TH400 tag for a 402 car for all three years to verify my codes are correct. I'd also like to see a 1972 tag for a 454 car. Thank you!

Dtret
Nice work but clarify one thing. On the 454 tag posted the letter C is for Chevrolet( the first letter big on the tag and stamped) the other letter is for the engine? Is that correct? rotinrob
If you are looking for technical information in regards to the various model codes like CR or CT decode to as far as what's inside the transmission ckperformance has some great charts showing the various combinations of clutch plate numbers, springs, plates, steels etc. Really shows the difference between a grocery getter 400 and a LS6 400 or a TH425 rotin

And the small stamped C is also for Chevrolet. I may need to clear that up on that page stating that those are for the Chevrolet division. I may need to label the various codes in the image to make it more clear.

rotinrob
This is from Chevelle stuff www.chevellestuff.net (since our cars are based on the same mechanicals it has a bit more information on usage about the same as above but more specific to our cars The second character of the code is not a reliable indicator of what engine it goes to as some second digits are for replacement/service transmissions (not reflected in this chart but in a more complete chart) that are somewhat generic in application. For instance is a CT code which as far as I can figure is a OTC truck replacement trans. But once again for a street build the CW, CX or CY is the model to reference/copy. rotin

Canuck
It took me quite a bit of time to draw the TH400 tag examples and try to get the fonts right. I tried to get the colours of the tags as close to the tags I've seen.
