I currently do not own a Monte, My uncle bought one new in 1970. lots of fond memories. A friend owned one in high school. More fond memories. I am currently into Corvettes. cny first gen 71
good luck in your quest to find your monte. Not sure of your budget but there is one of the sweetest 71 ss for sale in myrtle Beach right now. Think it's in the for sale section. miketroncoso
Jefe Canuck I have a question. I recently purchased my 1971 Monte Carlo, Im trying to find out how can I tell if its a SS ? It has a big block 402 which I read that they had the option to choose it as a SS or not other than the 454?

No SS with a 402. https://www.firstgenmc.com/forums/index.php?/resources/ss454/
MC1of80
Like Aaron stated, No SS Monte Carlo was built with any engine besides the 454. Is your 402 numbers matching to the car it's in? If so, it's one of 8633 big block 402 Montes built in 71. Not as rare as an SS or 4 speed car (big or small block) but still not as common. 420ponies
Welcome!! If it's Monte Carlo stuff you have, this will be a place to let it go to a happy owner. My best memories of a corvette was in Michigan on I-94 blowing the doors off a '74 SD Trans Am at a 30 mph roll !! Both 4 spds , ours 400hp 355SBC 4:11 rear gears. We were over 120 and still ahead of the TransAm. It was a '68 corvette, ( a little modified).
